As long as the connection interface isn't different, the Rpm does not matter.

Here's a walk through on how to install the drive.
http://blog.parts-people.com/2011/08/15/dell-latitude-d630-hard-drive-and-caddy-removal-and-installation/

The Bios should automatically recognize the new drive. You can go ahead and install the operating system from a bootable cd or usb.

SOURCE: Dell C640 wireless not working

I used Everest home edition to find the wireless drivers for my DELL C640 laptop.   The wireless card in it is an  ntel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B MiniPCI Adapter (IBM). I've downloaded the wireless driver from Intel's website, here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=944&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional〈=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!#DRI
It's the 3rd result in that search page. If the link doesn't work, simply search for Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection on Intel's site.
That Dell C640 wireless driver works fine for me, I'm using the wireless card to type this :)
good luck!

SOURCE: Dell d400 problems with Western Digital 32 gig hard drive

try connecting to a differnt port if it still does the same thing change the usb cable because what i understand is there is a loose connection somewhere ... or the best thing is contact dell at 18006249896 and ask them that u want to change the internal hdd and they will tell u what maximum the system can support and which is available with them ... its their system and if u buy parts from them they have to support u and make sure they both work

SOURCE: New Hard Drive (Missing Drivers)

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model laptop, better still type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the driver for your Windows operating system.

SOURCE: Dell inspiron 1721 hard drive not recognized for Vista reinstall

ok, theres a small issue with the raid controller. You have to install a 3rd party raid driver (its on the dell cd) to continue, OR, you can set that BIOS's hard drive controls to ATA or LEGACY (legacy would likely work best, but youd have no 'raid' functions, but who sets up raid drives on a notebook?). Your last option is use the dell discs to restore, and inssert the windws disc when prompted

Testimonial: "Thank you so much! It didn't have a option for Legacy, but only RAID and ATA. But it's working!! You are super awesome!! Thank you!!!"

what os are you using
win xp and win 7 are not longer supported by Microsoft so you have to go to the manufacturer web site, find your model hard drive and download the driver that is compatible with your win os as drivers for those 2 os are no longer in the os systems

How can i find out what operating system my laptop came with originally?

It sounds like your laptop came with a OEM OS of Windows Vista, probably 64 bit.

http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2008/siggraph/ds_elitebook8530w_mobileworkstation.pdf

^That is a link to your specific laptop if you described it properly in your question.

As far as 7 goes, you can do an install of it. If your HDD is wiped, then just insert a Windows 7 OS disk into your dvd drive and the proceed to do an install. After the OS install you will need to install drivers and additional software to unleash the laptops full potential as a computer.

I have added a video to aid your install. ( As a certified PC tech I recommend going with Windows 7 as an OS, its much better and safer than Vista)

Correct HD?

The hard drive is a standard 2.5" drive...so yes it will fit. Make sure your bios recognizes it before attempting to install your OS.

Good luck.

if you have any discs in the dvd remove them... it should boot to the hard drive when it doesn't find anything in the dvd. if you need to install an operating system put that disc in the dvd and boot from it. during the installation it will start to run off the hard drive. when you are done installing remove the installation disc.

Hi, I had to perform a hard drive formatting to my archos 7 with my iMac (snow leopard OS). Now, my device is not recognized by my iMac and can not install the latest firmaware and plug-ins. Please, can...

Preformat : By Fix-shad0w

#1
Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
#2
Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
#3
Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
#4
In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
#5
Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
#6
Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
