Fan on outside unit will not turn on, will run once you give it a spin with a screwdriver however will not turn on by itself. Changed the fan and the capacitor both out with new ones, i am baffled!

yes, the condenser unit has power, everything runs fine once I give the fan a little spin. it's when the unit turns off and then tries to come back on is when we have the issue? what could be causing this issue on the furnace board? thanks for your help by the way.

This is a stupid question(s) but....

Do you have power to the condenser unit? Have you checked the fuses to verify that they are still good?

If yes to above then go to then check the stat (is it calling for cooling?) just to be sure I would jumper out between R&Y at the furnace board.

Hi,

That is wierd. If the fan and capacitor is the same as the old one. Although I'm thinking of capacitor issue, you should take out the fan and capacitor and test it.

I hope this helps.

It is likely that the fan will have to be replaced.

Ruud UAKA-030JAZ fan spins, not blowing cold air

there are 3 things to be considered, first,if the compressor motor `s connectors are having loose,it gives a hi ampere to your RELAY that can cause to its contacts being fried, second, the compressor motor itself is gaining a hi ampere already i.e. having unusual sound that can cause heavy friction inside the turning mechanism and third the last but not the least, maybe this time, the tubes or the compressor itself having very small holes that causes to the refrigerant to escape and it doesn`t gives off cold air.

Fan on outside unit will not start

That could be a few different problems, does the unit sound like the compressor is trying to kick on? If so, it could just be the condensor coil...or the fan motor itself. I just had to replace the fan motor on my own outside unit. Check to see if the fan blade will turn with the unit both on, and off using a screwdriver or something.

Rheem condenser fan don't spin up under it'sown power.

If you have a multimeter that tests "uf" or "mfd" that is microfarads. That will test the capacitor. Turn off power to unit, touch top of cap with insulated screwdriver across terminals to discharge and remove fan and common. MARK WHICH WIRES GO WHERE. Or if no mfds on multimeter, amps×2650÷volts=mfd. Amp draw on fan wire off of cap times 2650 divided by the volts between common and fan on the cap. If cap is good it's likely the motor.

The outside fan on the unit no coming on

Replace the fan motor capacitor (about $20) , that should solve the problem but if not , the fan motor has to be changed, make sure the new one has the same H.P.,same volts and same r.p.m.

Not outputting air

If this is a new problem after storage and you can hear a hum, you may want to unplug the unit and slip a screwdriver or something into the outside vents and see if the fan spins. My RV had this problem occur every spring and I had to manually spin the fan once and add a little lube to the bearing and it would work all season after that.

Outside compressor fan won't spin without a nudge

Hi,

either you can lubricate it by spraying wd40 on the bushings. Although usually fan motors are permanently lubricated there are still dust particles that get through and cause it not to spin.

Try turning the power off at the fuse box, waiting 5 minutes turning the system back on and spray some water on the vents on the side of the outside condenser. If the fan isnt spining get a twig and spin it in an anti-clockwise direction after 1 or 2 spins it should start spinning on its own. continue to hose the vents with water for another 5 minutes. Its important to have the fan spinning as it extracts the heat from the condenser box.

Outside fan will not turn on

If you can spin the fan blade with a screwdriver or something and get it to take off you probably have a bad capacitor. If it will not turn then you probably have a bad motor.
