This is everything that i know that will make an 8N run hot...a stopped up radiator(inside)..a radiator that is filled with debris in the cooling fins..a bad thermostat(located in the upper radiator hose..if it has one).....a stopped up block..bent fan blades...fan shroud missing..a bad water pump..the fan belt slipping on the water pump ..a blown head gasket..low coolant..i hope this will help and one of them should fix it ..if not...please write me back

I have 1952 ford 8n and will run 5 minutes then start missing and hesitating could the coil be getting hot? Its 6 volt coil with internal resistor but tractor was converted to 12 volt.

try replacing the coil with a straight 12 volt coil and not a resistance coil as the missing could be from a overheated coil
if the coil is at fault then when the engine starts to miss then then coil would be hot to the touch

How do you replace a water pump for a 97 ford contour

How to Replace a Water Pump

Tools:
1. Scraper
2. Socket Set

Steps:
Step 1 * With the engine off and cold, open the hood and locate the vehicle’s water pump.
o Tip: Safety Tip:Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or safety shoes.
o Tip: Before removing the radiator cap, squeeze the upper radiator hose to verify that the cooling system is not pressurized.

Step 2 * Remove the radiator cap.

Step 3 * Install cooling system pressure tester. Apply the pressure indicated on the radiator cap or in the owner’s manual.

Step 4 * Inspect cooling system components for leaks.

Step 5 * Place a drain pan under the radiator. Open drain valve or remove the lower radiator hose to drain cooling system.
o Tip: Depending on the vehicle, lifting the vehicle may be required to gain access to the lower radiator hose.

Step 6 * Remove the drive belts or serpentine belt.

Step 7 * Remove any hoses connected to water pump.

Step 8 * Unbolt water pump from engine. Remove the water pump.
The water pump is retained by four bolts

Carefully remove the water pump from the engine block

Step 9 * Using a gasket scraper, clean the mating surface on the engine block.

Step 10 * Install new water pump and new gasket. Tighten bolts to manufacturer’s specifications.
o Tip: You may want to use a light bead of silicone designed for water pumps.

Step 11 * Re-install any hoses and belts that were removed.

Step 12 * Re-install drain plug or lower radiator hose.
o Tip: Squeeze the radiator hose. If it feels soft you may want to replace the hose at this time. Always use new hose clamps.

Step 13 * Refill radiator with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water, then pressure test the cooling system and check for leaks.

Step 14 * Fill overflow reservoir with same mixture.

Step 15 * Leave the radiator cap off, start engine and let it idle. You should see the system“burping” bubbles of air. Refill the radiator to the top.
o Tip: Most air is expelled after a couple minutes of idling. Be cautious of potentially hot fluid overflowing.

Step 16 * Install radiator cap.

Step 17 * Road test vehicle, keep an eye on the engine temp gauge if vehicle runs hot, there still might be an air pocket in the cooling system. The cooling system should be topped off after vehicle has fully cooled down.

Hope helped (remember rated this help) Good luck.

Car is running hot, hoses are hot after 2o minutes of driving will start to go up

You need to find out if you are getting any coolant flow. Look for any signs of restrictions. You could try measuring the temp of the inlet hose and comparing it to the temp of the radiator outlet hose, there should be about a 20 degree difference. Next step is to test your thermostat you need to be sure that it is opening properly. First let the car cool down, drain the coolant and remove the thermostat. An easy way is to take some hot water and measure its temp you'll want it around 215 deg f. Place the thermostat into the water and see if it opens up. If so it is working properly and you need to look else ware. Reinstall the thermostat and fill the cooling system make sure to bleed out all the air. Other possibilities are the cooling fan is not coming on, the radiator cap is defective not allowing the system to pressurize a worn out water pump not flowing enough coolant, or a restricted radiator. First off you should try bleeding the system it is possible that there is air trapped in it. Happy hunting.

Ford 8n sometimes just stops-very hard to restat.

Could be a bad condensor or coil, flaking out when they get hot. If it starts ok after it cools down about an hour and is cold, then very likely the problem.
www.Ford8n.com would have everything you need for replacements.
