Hi, I have a Canon Printer, model MP460, serial # JCYA53810. It will not print and an error message appears "The paper is jammed. Clear paper and press OK." I've cleared the paper and followed all instructions in the book. Any advice? Thanks, **** Byrnes

    Hi,

My problem as reported is still ongoing. I followed advice by putting settings to plain paper and fast. Error message still appears and printer won't print.

    Thanks,

Paper is jammed in the paper path or the paper jam sensor at the rear of the fusing assembly may be stuck, causing a false paper jam warning. Remove jammed paper. While clearing paper jams the top cover or rear cover must be opened and closed again before pressing Continue or online to resume. Check that the rear cover is closed; an open rear cover may cause a paper jam. If no paper jam is found, check locations shown in the user's manual. P Paper is jammed in the top or rear of the printer. Clear jam and press Continue or Online to resume printing. To prevent further jams, verify the rear door is closed securely. A false paper jam message will occur if the printer's back door is open. If message persists, the printer could have a defective paper jam sensor and service would be required.

Hi,

I was having the same problem. Talk about frustrating. Sometimes up to 45 min of dicking around to get it to print one page. Here is what I did. And I know it sounds crazy but it worked for me....

SOLUTIONL: Cancel any currently pending print jobs. Press the settings button. Arrow down below the paper type setting (currently set to "Plain paper") and change the speed from "Standard" to "Fast". This did the trick for me and now I am feeding paper and printing like a mad man.

It really doesn't make complete sense to me why this would fix the problem and why so many people are having the same problem... but my rationale is as follows.... This is happening to many people ... not merely an isolated incident... so most likely this is an engineering defect. Something in the way they designed and built this thing is less than perfect. I am guessing that somewhere within the firmware that runs this printer there is a section that says start counting the number of milliseconds from the time the paper feed is started until it is place to begin printing (probably a sensor somewhere), and if too much time has passed then there must have been a paper jam. This allotment of time may have been set to a very small window of time...(tighter tolerances usually means better quality, but not in this instance.) So by setting the speed to "Fast" we are able to get the paper in position before the window of time expires.
Thanks for contacting Fixya.

After clearing a paper jam on my MP460, I get another error message, 'the paper is jammed. Clear the paper and press [ok]', which can't be removed. Pressing [ok] has no effect and I can't get into the main...

A few possible solutions:

- Open the top of the printer and look along the print path for pieces of paper.
- Press the reset button.
- Turn off the printer first and then unplug it. Plug it back in and turn it on. Wait for it to start up.

Good luck!

Every time I try to print, the printer grabs the paper crooked.

There's a leaver where the paper comes out, make certain it's to the left when printing with paper and to the right for envelopes.

Jamming problem

try this
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.
