Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Cold air is not circulating to the fridge section in my side-side ARS9167AW amana. Also lower freezer section is very cold. This problem happened 2 years ago and a fridge repair service fixed it for $200. All they did was replace a small simple little fan. I am almost certain its the same exact problem and I need to replace this fan again. Can someone tell me where this fan is located (that pushes air to the fridge from the freezer)and what type of fan it is and/or the part number. Thanks, --Eric

The evaporator fan is located behind the back cover in the freezer. Diagram 5 shows the parts.http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=22436

Westinghouse freestyle fridge &freezer work but warm after being turned off fo 90 days

What happens in that 72 hours is the evaporator coil get's so much frost built up on it that the fan in the evap. freezer fan has no where to circulate the cold air (where the cold is produced). Basically you have a restriction between freez/fridg. sections you have defrost problem> It is one of three things d heater,d t stat, or your d timer.I need the model # to tell you what my sugestions would be and where to start.

Whirpool side by side freezer working but fridge not

Hi emmaubiera86,

The issue with the freezer working but the fridge is not is usually the result of a defrost problem. The first thing to check in this case is the freezer area. Look at the back panel inside the freezer. If you notice frost covering the back panel, you have defrost problem. One of the things that happens during this defrost problem is Air cannot circulate from the freezer(where the cold happens basically) to the fresh food section. The coils inside the freezer are the only part inside the whole refrigerator that "get cold". They need to stay free from excess frost build up so that air can pass through the coils and reach the fridge section of your machine.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Amana freezer is cold, fridge is not.

You will be able to hear it when you open the freezer door and hold the door switch in.It is located behind the rear panel inside the freezer. The fan should be running when the compressor is running. If it is running make sure the damper(vent) to the fridge side is not blocked by ice and that the damper door is open.

Amana model AB1924DEW freezer is too cold, but refrigerator is not cold enough. Have adjusted controls with no effect

There is a door that allows the air from the freezer to cool the fridge side. Sometimes these are manual or mechanical. It may need stuck or repair depending on what you have. If you look in the back or or fridge at the top there is probably a opening for that air to go through. Maybe it is plugged from ice, you may have to look around if the freezer is on the bottom. It could be numerous problem. Rule out the most obvious first and go from there.

Fridge and freezer not getting cold

  • You have 2 fans Make sure your top fan is working ,its located inside the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked. With out a fan you have no circulation .Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open 12 to 24 hrs this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.

MY FREEZER IS GETTING TOO COLD AND THE FRIDGE IS NOT GETTING COLD AT ALL

In most refrigerator freezers, the refrigerator gets its cold from the freezer. The evaporator fan circulates air over the coils in the freezer and cold air circulates into the refrigerator through vents. If the vents are blocked or closed, then the fridge will not get cold enough but the freezer will. If neither is cold enough, then the number of possibilities increases.
Lowering the freezer temperature will increase the cooling cycle activity. Setting the refrigerator temperature may have little affect on the cooling cycles because it simply changes the vent opening size. Decreasing the fridge temperature opens the vents more and increases air circulation from the freezer.
The temperature can be adjusted using the controls found inside the refrigerator or freezer. The ideal freezer temperature is about 0 to 5 degrees (F) and about 38 degrees (F) for the fridge.
Measure the temperature by placing a cup of water with a cooking thermometer into the refrigerator for about 2 hours or more. To test the freezer, substitute alcohol or cooking oil.

Bottom of freezer/fridge only getting cold.

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.

Side-by-side fridge is freezing food on bottom shelf

Look to the freezer section for a possible frosting on the back wall. If you have a defrost problem in the freezer and air circulation stops cold air from the freezer may settle through the return area of the duct between the refrigerator and freezer section because cold air is heavier the warm air. Normal circulation follows a clockwise pattern.
Also your setting of the refrigerator temperature may be set to cold. Once again cold air settles to the bottom.

Water always inside refrigerator sometimes ice forms

Sounds like you might have a condensation problem. Is the fan in your freezer working? If not it's not circulating the cold air. If it is you might have frost on the lower rear wall of your freezer meaning its not defrosting like it should and restricting your air flow. Last but not least you have a damper door in the upper left corner of your fridge that allows the cold air from your freezer into the fridge to cool it, that might not be opening up. Any one of these things would cause your water problem and a warm fridge section
