Mine is a very early unit and has been a fine

mine is a very early unit and has been a fine performer. of late however it will not finalise dvd's. it records to hard drive and dubs to dvd but towards the end of the finalising process an error message flashes up and the process is aborted. the dvd disc shows empty but is unusable. any suggestions?
