Click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X

you will need to update/reinstall drivers

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts

if you need more help with this post a reply

Replace hard disk

Any 2.5" SATA hard drive will work (2.5"=notebook size).
SATA III (three) is what you want.

I would use Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper to copy your drive. Borrow a friend's USB or Thunderbold external hard drive bay to attach the drive until you copy your original drive. Then just swap the drives, and your MacBook will boot on the new drive.

All the best to you,

The usb drive isn't working

sometimes if you just unplug the usb without useing the computer to disconnect from it. it can lock up or erase it, most systems have a green indicater in the lower left toolbar to click on before unplugging it. when you first plug it in a window should pop up asking if it is ok to fix the flash drive hit yes, or ok

Have sata hard drive that was in my pavilion, the pavilion died got compaq presario tht borrow from friend just need to use my harddrive, but dont want to wipe it. help what.can i do?

Connect your hard drive to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into the USB port of a working computer. This computer will detect the hard drive as an external storage device. You can then open the various folders and files on the hard drive to copy/back up the data.

Hi there. I have an Acer Aspire 5600AWLMi, I want to format my laptop and start everything from scratch; reinstalling XP and all the drivers in it. Two problems: 1.Don't have the Acer Recovery...

You need to replace the DVD reader or use an external one, and obtain a windows install CD. Enter your model number on the acer website to get all of the required drivers. Obtain the drivers and put them on a CD before reformatting as you will not have the wifi drive to go get the drivers if you try and get the drivers after you format.

When I connect my hard drive - its asking me to format the disk

HI. you are right DO NOT FORMAT!. First try removing the hard drive from the case and connect it to another computer to make sure it's not the hard drive. Also try other computers and other Operating Systems, Linux, Mac. If you have a friend with a mac (everybody knows one) try using the other interfaces - connect it via USB or Firewire, or eSATA on Mac and Windows. I had many issues like this and I was able to recover the data of Windows using Mac and viceversa. I hope this helps and don't forget to rate and give positive feedback for our free support today. My pc has no CD-ROM drive and i cant install sims2

Have a friend copy the CD onto a USB flash drive. Create a folder on the flash drive and name it something like SIMS. Using Windows Explorer, drop and drag the entire CD to the folder you created.

You can then install the program from the flash drive by inserting it in your computer, selecting Start>Run>Browse and direct it to the Setup file in the SIMS folder.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I recently added a Seagate 500 GB external desktop drive to my Dell PC. It had only 18 GB on the C: drive, and I had gotten msgs that I was running out of disk storage. I installed the new drive thru...

I think I would run the setup application and see if it helps. You're relying on the Windows drivers for the drive and who knows how well they work.

1. Turn the computer off completely.
2. Disconnect the USB drive and any other USB devices (for the time being).
3. Turn the computer back on, put the installation disk in and follow the instructions. Don't connect the USB drive until you are asked! Having it connected before asked may not allow the installation process to work as it should.
4. When everything is installed, hook your other USB devices back up and see what happens.

If this doesn't work, go to the Seagate site and try out their external HD troubleshooter.

Hope that helps! Remember to rate the solutions!

Missing external drive from computer

> replaced the usb card ..

Did you mean "replaced the USB cable" ??

Borrow a "multimeter", and check that the power-supply for the external drive is putting-out the correct voltage/amperage.

Try disassembling the external drive, and connecting the disk-drive as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, to see if the disk-drive itself is OK,
i.e., the USB-to-disk-drive interface inside the casing might have failed, but your "data" could be OK.

You do not need any drivers in windows for these drives if you are using XP/Vista. These are generic volumes. Try deleting any mention of the driver in device manager and let windows install it automatically. This sounds a lot more that your pen drive is dead. Time for a new one. Can you borrow a friends and plug it in to test the USB port is ok?
