Question about Televison & Video
When the screen is black (no raster) it means you have lost the high voltage that
feeds the picture tube. High voltage comes from the flyback transformer which is
part of the horizontal deflection system.
Therefore, the problem could be a bad flyback, bad horizontal output circuit or
any other part of the horizontal driving system.
The cost of repair is generally quite expensive and if the set if over 4 or 5 years
of age you may want to think about just replacing the set. If the set is quite new
it certainly is worth the money to repair it.
It is not a repair that can be made at home unless: a) you are a qualified tv technician,
b) you can bang on the set and find that it is being caused by an intermittent that
comes and goes (let me know if so and I will tell you how to proceed) or c) you
are extremely adventurous and want to do it to learn about the process of troubleshooting
and diagnosis of television receivers.
