Make sure that you can go online through the router when the router is connected direclty to the computer. Once you have confirmed that you can achieve internet connection this way then you need to check for the wireless settings on the router.

My router is not picking up the signal and I have window 7 on my laptop and exp on my desk top

You mean your router is not sending or broadcasting a signal?

1) make sure that the router is set on bridge mode ( if your modem is the one using the PPPOE settings) if not then you have to bridge your modem and make sure that your router is the one using the PPPOE settings provided by your ISP.

2) make sure that the ETHERNET cable is properly connected and without any flaws.

3) check your firewall settings as well for this will not allow you to connect to a new wireless network connection.

4) be sure that the router's MAC FILTERING is turned off, if not then leave it off.

try this first and if this will not work send me a message so that i can give you some more tips.

I have a Qwest PK5000Z modem and it does not send the wireless signal strong enough to initially connect a laptop in the other room. I can walk the laptop next to the modem and back into the other room and...

There are a few things to try:
  • Move the router to a location that is higher off the floor
  • Move the router off of metal cabinets or away from large metal furniture
  • Get rid of 2.4 GHz cordless phones and buy DECT 6.0 compliant cordless phones
  • Buy a 9DB gain antenna for the router
  • Change the channel that you are using to one that you're not using: 1, 6, 11 (choose the one you're not currently using)
  • If your house has lathe and plaster walls, realize that these walls are like concrete -- they reduce WiFi signals by 13dB ( a lot -- drywall only reduces signal by 3DB)

My linksys WRT150N router won't recieve internet signal from my dsl modem. The router sends out a signal to my lap top, but no internet connection can be made.

Try connecting your laptop directly to the dsl modem to make sure that it is working correctly.
If the dsl modem is working correctly then:
1. Turn off the power on the router and dsl modem.
2. After about 2 minutes, turn on the dsl modem.
3. Wait another 2 minutes, then turn on the router.

Occasionally you need to do this to get them back in synch. If this doesn't work you may need to use the software utility to reconfigure the router.

Had a power outage and now router not sending signal. I am not sure these events are related. all lights look good on router and I have internet on wired comp. unpluged modem and router then pluged modem...

Most of the time, routers and modem stops working when it sense a power outage. This is the defense mechanism of these devices to avoid from being damaged.

Turn off the computer, router and modem. Leave them off for 15 minutes. Then turn the modem back on first, wait for 30 seconds.

Then turn on the router, wait for another 30 seconds. After that turn the computer ON.

This would power cycle the router. If same problem occurs, contact the router manufacturer.

Have a great day!

I tried to reset my security password and now it won't work.

Make sure you have the physical connection connected properly.

-Modem should be connected to the Internet/WAN port of the router.
-Your laptop must be connected to port 1 of the router as well.
-Make sure you can go online hardwired to the router.

Then configure the wireless settings of the router by accessing the router setup page, change the wireless settings.

How to connect my PSP to the internet?

you need a router, the modem to the router, the router must be wireless, that sends the signal to the PSP, if it is WiFi. The modem itself is usless, without the wireless adapter or router to send the signal to your PSP

How do i hook up a westell router to a moterola comcast modem?

Okay, well something is obviously wrong.
This is how it should be connected. Internet to modem, then with an Ethernet cable, connect the modem to the router (jack1) then with another Ethernet cable, connect the router (jack2) to the computer.
If you are still having problems, then contact your company to see if they could walk you through it, or if they needed to set things up.
Also, where are you connecting your laptop from? Is it very far from the router? Perhaps your router's signal strength isn't great enough? (This would mean getting a new, more powerful router.)
