I discovered that it will run with the gas cap off. But not too practical as gas spills all over the place. I don't see a gas cap vent,but I think that's the problem. (vent plugged up) So where is the vent?

Without know the model number, I couldn't say. You could go to.. http://www.partstree.com/parts/ click on Husqvarna, then enter the model number on the left. That will bring up the diagram for it. It may have a duckbill valve inside the cap or an external vent elsewhere.

If it feels like fuel starvation, then it probably is. Maybe a breather hole is blocked. I had a similar problem and discovered that if I placed the spare key in the fuel cap and rode it, when the problem arose opened the cap and the bike started behaving properly. I took the cap to pieces and cleared the breather hole.....problem solved..
no there is not but the seal on the tank may be damaged.. also check that the breath line inter the tank to the top of the tank side has not been messed around with as this helps the fuel get to the engine. the seal on the tank should cover the neck of the tank to stop spills in the event off a crash. the breather line is opened and closed by the engine running. when some one is trying to steal fuel and they cannot get the cap off the get under and cut the breather pipe as you can suck out the fuel from there if you have a full tank.
Read entire posting before doing anything else first. I discovered what the problem was, after changing spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter (At this point the mower would not start at all): 1. Checking for spark. I got spark out of both plug wires. The modules were OK. 2. Checking for fuel flow. Only small amount of fuel coming out of fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump. (I bought a Briggs and Stratton for $22.50 instead of a Kohler for $60.00. Same fuel filter!) It ran fine for 10 min. then quit again! I loosened the gas cap and it has ran fine since then, by keeping the gas cap loose. I will replace the gas cap. Note: It was difficult to find the problem, since I replaced the filter and removed the vapor lock, so it ran for awhile. I then checked the fuel pump and removed the vapor lock, so it ran for awhile. I would suggest that people with similar problems, loosen the gas cap to see if that works first!
I have a 92 apv with a 3.8 and changed the fuel filter about a year ago. It is located underneath the vehicle on the right (drivers) side, just forward of the gas tank. I bought a new filter and just by matching up the part with the in-line filter found it pretty easily. The are several lines from the tank that run the length of the vehicle to the engine compartment and you shouldn't have a problem spotting the filter. There are a pair of tabs on the filter that need to be either compressed or opened (I can't remember which) and then twist turn the filter, and gently pull the filter off. If you have to open the tabs you may need a flat tip screwdriver to do so, I just don't remember if I needed one, or if there might be a screw mounted clip underneath holding up the gas line. Be careful not to put too much strain on the gas line as you work with it because it could snap. All I did to prep this procedure was to remove the fuel filler cap from the gas from the tank (as in when you gas up) to relieve any pressure that might be in the tank. You will have some gas leak out of the gas line when the filter is removed, so I just had some shop towels handy to allow the gas to soak into them. I did this outside, so if you are working in a garage, have the overhead door up to avoid gas fumes build-up. The new filter goes in very smoothly. Insert in the same position that the old one came out, twist into place, and the locking tabs should pop right into place. Wipe up all the spilled gas and re-install the fuel filler cap, and you should be good to go. This replacement only took me several minutes.
I take it the car ran and just died and now wont start at all?
Can you hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds when the key is first turned to ON?
Is there a security light on in the dash? Does the engine turn over/ starter working?
Check for spark. Pull the coil wire from the cap and place it close to a ground (may need a screw driver placed in the end) like an intake manifold bolt. Don't make it touch the ground, just place it close. Crank the engine over and watch for spark.

You can actually throw a fault signal by not having gas cap on, or even tight. People who pump gas while car is running often throw a evap code, check the parts store and see if they have a scanner, they usually let you use it for free, just hook it up to your car, clear code, and your light will disappear.
If it is blowing thick white smoke that is coolant. You can lose a head gasket in places where only coolant passages go through so you don't always get oil/coolant mixing when this happens. Take the radiator cap off and see if air bubbles through it. You can also try pulling the spark plugs to see if one or more looks really clean.
This can be tricky, but if you have the same range model that I have, it has a little central cap on each burner that acts as the flame spreader and the working top of the burner channels.
The igniter is off to the side and actually has it own little drilled-in hole just above the business end where you see the spark. Spills, especially big, greasy spills, can get into the hole and harden.
Than narrow little hole simply needs to be cleaned out. Find a small stiff wire and bend it in a long L shape. Work the long end into the hole from either end - wherever you can find the way in... those spills can be awful. **** it out really good so the little gas channel is free of blockage andyou should be good.
You don't have to take anything apart, just get down close and look. On my stove, the hole is in the center of a little raised bump in the burner casting when you look at the center of the burner with the little flame spreader/burner cap off.
if you open up the hood and find your fuel rail you should see a little cap just like what is on your tire valve stems. take the cap off and push the little valve in the center agian just like the valve stem on your tire. be vary carefull as fuel will spray out of this. that is how to depressurize the fuel system
Hey Don, I understand your frustration! Had the same problem years ago. Sounds like your gas tank is not breathing.Try this: Run the trimmer until it begins to stall out, then loosen the gas cap slightly. The trimmer should begin to run again. If it begins to run, then the gas cap is clogged. Clear the breather hole or purchase new gas cap. This should solve the problem.
