Freezer icemaker arm not working properly

If the icemaker is still in the freezer, be sure it is turned off (usually OFF is the metal feeler arm locked in the 'up' position) because the unit will still call for water even if the water line is not hooked up...

Hello the arm should be in the down position in order for the ice maker to try and start makeing ice cubes. when you stated you can hear it tripping what can you hear tripping can you see the icemaker arms spining. Sometimes i find it is best to remove the icemaker from the unit 2 1/4' screws located on top and one located on the bottom and then take the hole icemaker and run it under hot water for a couple minutes this causes any parts on the icemaker that are froozen up to become defrosted and sometimes it will go back into proper functioning order as well. p.s if arm was in up position this would shut the icemaker off and it would not attempt to make ice any further

It sounds like you have a bad icemaker. Usually when the arm is clicking its the gears that are stripped out. Feel in the icemaker if theres cubes frozen in there then you know the icemaker is definitely bad. With the arm in the up position it will not make cubes at all that is the off position for the icemaker. Hope this helps _MJ_

There are only two other parts in the freezer that can make noisei if your icemaker is off. The evaporator fan motor makes noise when ice builds up around it, and the blades start hitting the ice. It also makes noise when the bearings start to fail on the motor. Rarely, the evaporator will make noise when the freon is pumped through it, we will get all kinds of strange noises. This is not a problem usually as long as your termperatures are fine. To check these items out, you will have to remove the icemaker and the back inside panel in the freezer. With it off, you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. If it is a bad evaporator fan motor, replace it. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Sounds like you are not going to use the automatic icemaker, so I would remove the whole icemaker unit which will include disconnecting the wire harness behind the icemaker which will shut off power to the icemaker and will also give you more storage room in your freezer compartment.This will not harm the refrigerator or the icemaker, you could also disconnect the waterline if you want.Please note that this solution applies to the top freezer,and bottom freezer style refrigerators only thatt DO NOT have dispensers through the door. That sound is usually your icemaker calling for water. you can turn off your icemaker by lifting the little arm on the icemaker. As the icemaker calls for water the valve will be activated and will hum. This sound is usually not very loud. If your valve is making that much noise you may consider replacing the valve. The part number for you water inlet valve is #2315533 The retail price is $60.18 . I do have these on hand and available to ship out today if you need one. Please just let me know. you sure is the icemaker and not the fan in the freezer

Three possible solutions for you.
1: No water coming in from inlet valve. Check voltage on inlet if you have voltage and no water then replace valve.
2:Icemaker not cycleing. Lift the arm on the icemaker to shut it off and leave it for about an hour. Come back in and turn the icemake back on by lowering the arm. If the icemaker does not begin a new cycle and the arm start rising then the problem is most likely an icemaker. Replace Icemaker
3:Refrigerator not cold enough. If the freezer is not getting cold enough the icemaker will not cycle. Check the temperature in the freezer and make sure it is getting down to 0 degrees. In most cases you can easily solve this problem.
step one would be to make sure your freezer is getting cold enough. If you have icecream in your freezer is it frozen solid or is it soft. Most icemakers cycle around 0 degrees and if your freezer is not getting to 0 then it will not cycle and it will not make ice.
Step two would be to make sure you icemake is cycling. To do this simply lift the little shut off arm on your icemaker and wait about an hour then go back to the icemaker and drop the arm down. The icemaker should start going through a cycle. You should notice the arm slowly begin to raise and the ice dispencer fingers will begin to turn. Then you will hear it call for water. You may hear a humm.
If the freezer is cold enough and the icemaker is cycling that only leaves the inlet valve. replace the valve and enjoy the ice.
If the freezer is cold enought and the icemaker does not cycle, then you have a bad icemaker. Simply replace the icemaker and viola.
Third if the freezer is not cold enought 0 defrees. Then you may have a defrost problem. In this case post more info and I will be happy to help. Good luck [email protected]

on the back wall just above or under the fill tube youl find the wire harness , simply unplug the ice maker, while your at it 3 1/4 screws mount the ice maker to the side wall, youll have more room in freezer by removing it
