Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Something inside lens

It would appear something got inside the lens assembly of my DSC-W100 and affixed itself to the inside of the lens, and now every pic has a blurry spot. I could really use some help figuring out how to disassemble the camera and get into the lens assembly to try and clean it, and then put it back together. Anybody have a service manual, or better yet some first hand experience opening one of these up?

Re: Something inside lens

I work with sonys all the time ..I do not recommend disassembling the lens section at all. unless its between lens and CCD imager but I doubt its there..

Lens is going in and out and finally the screen says "turn power off and on again. But keep doing the same thing, unable to take pic.

It is problem of lens mechanism and lens assembly will be replaced to fix the issue.
Local camera repair shop will help you to replace lens assembly because it is not user level repair.

The lens on my camera is stuck. I dropped it.

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

Lens problem

in your situation you need aproper tools to fix it and enough knowledge about the sensitive parts of your camera.

i prefer to suggest to you that instead of doing it by yourself bring it to a service to avoid and prevent any additonal problem that may occur.

I have sony digital DSC-W100. The lens does not close when I turned off the camera!!

sounds drastic but grab lens and manually help the lens go in or out. if you hear a crunching noise the gears are stripped. not economical to repair. flat rate usually exceeds price of new cam.

Hello, there is a problem with the optical unit (lens). Normaly when the camera is in camera mode the lens should go out. In your case it seems that for some reason the lens is stuck. Please contact your nearest Sony dealer. If you want to repair the camera yourself please tell me. I can send some additional info as well. Regards, Arpi
