Question about HP Pavilion G60-120US NoteBook
The issue can be a number of problems, the cables between the display and the motherboard could be loose, the display may have failed, or the motherboard / video card is not giving proper output from the motherboard connectors but still works from the external connect.
Overheating could cause damage like this.
The most likely problem is the lcd display, its cables could be loose, it would be best to get the display tested by a professional to confirm if the display is at fault or the motherboard / video card.
we can't test this over the internet so we can't be sure unless you had another display to connect to the laptop.
I would recommend to contact a local repairer who would give a free repair estimate.
as I said earlier I suspect the problem is either:
Display - 50% -- Most Likely
cables - 25% -- Somewhat Likely
video / motherboard - 25% -- SomeWhat Likely.
Most likely the display is bad because you get picture out from the external, but we can't be completely sure without testing.

You only see line on the external monitor or you you see the same lines on the laptop display too?
Let me know
In the mean time check the connection (video Cable to external monitor) is tight.
