KitchenAid Dishwasher Model KUDK03CTWH2 Soap Door won't open
My 16 month old KitchenAid Dishwasher's soap door suddenly stopped opening during the wash cycle, so the second wash soap remains when the load is "done." Of course, only the dishes that were clean to start with are clean when the cycle is "done."
I see that many other people have the same problem. Cheap parts from China? One would think that the company would recall and replace the defective part for no charge, but I doubt that they will.

I have the same dishwasher, have for about 2 years. It took me about a month to figure this out... But, you cannot run it with the flatware rack hanging on the bottom dish rack, you have to move it to hang on the door and you cannot have anything in the compartment under the soap dispenser that is tall enough to block it from opening. Annoying design for sure!
The water may not be hot enough. Increase the temperature of the incoming hot water or try this: put the tab in the open soap cup so it will start to dissolve during the pre-wash. Then it will finish dissolving during the main wash. If the dishes get clean using this method you may not have to increase the water temp.
Kitchenaid lists 130 dishwashers with this model. Need the rest of the number KUDSO1DLxxxx Back in the day, when I worked on K Dishwashers, the drain valve was the problem typically. It would get a piece of glass, from broken glass or other item, or a toothpick, whatever stuck in the drain valve. It would not completely close. During the wash cycle, water would be trickling down the drain and by the time the soap dispenser opens, the water would be gone or nearly gone. Check this. When you hear the dispenser snap open, stop the dishwasher and open the door. If you have little or no water, you are losing the water during the wash cycle.
I had the same problem with my GE Adora. The dishes were getting cloudy and the soap dispenser would not open. Turns out the hard water deposits were causing the soap dispenser to stick shut. I purchased and used Dishwasher Magic which is a dishwasher cleaner designed to remove limescale, rust and buildup. I used as directed and now my dishes are sparkling and the soap dispenser pops right open.
