Physically cleaning printheads on a epson 6400 printer

I should have worded the problem differently. I have already done all of the cleaning procedures that the printer can do. I am sure the ink has dried up since the printer sat awhile I am sure. I am asking what ingredients make up print head cleaner, I really dont want to spend money online if I can make it myself. I have cleaned epsons before using a syringe, alcohol and air to clean out the small holes in the print heads. I am just asking if there is a better way to physically clean them. thanks.

SOURCE: Cleaning the heads on a Epson Photo R300

Unfortunately, the printhead can only be removed by disassembling the printer and paying for the parts if defective. It is just not worth it. If you have already tried new inks (just replace one - not all) and this number of cleaning cycles - there is nothing else. At this point replacing may be the best solution if you are out of the one-year warranty period.

SOURCE: Removing and cleaning Epson Printheads

I don't know how to remove the print head but if you want to clean it - check for mr.musculo solution from any market near you. Leave the print head in this solution (warmed at about 35 celsius) for several up to 24 hours.

SOURCE: Cleaning Printhead on a Epson RX650 Printer

Truely, this is a job best left to the professionals. I have been doing these for a few years now and I can tell you that it is fiddly and tricky. The best solution for cleaning a printhead is through software. This is how the professionals do it and it is the only successful method. Removing the printhead in these unit is only ever done when they are replaced and this is not something that can be done without the epson service software as there is a printhead number that must be entered into the eprom to make the head work.
If cleaning of the head through the soft ware has failed, try moving the head to the left of the unit. where the head parks is the ink system assembly, also known as the purge unit. Make yourself a solution of dishwashing liquid and water, about 70% water. Fill the small pad area that the head sits on to almost over flowing and move the head across to park position. Leave the printer for 24 hours and then conduct the deep clean from your software. If you are still unable to clear the heads, than the head is faulty and will need to be replaced. Again, there is codes to enter through service software that is unavailable to all except registered epson warranty service centres, so it will be something to be done by the professionals.

I hope this is helpfull.

Wasted all the ink trying to clean because it was printing blank pages

Hello

Ok, if the printer does not dispers any ink, you might want to have a look at the printhad of the printer.

What happens is, the ink moces frm the cartridges through the printhead onto the paper, thus, if the ink is done but you have not had any ink on the papr, the problem is mst likely with your printhead.

The printhead is the unit in which the cartridges is mounted.

Have a look, take the cartridges out and see if you note an excess amount of ink, if so, the printhead is done.

Let me know.

Kind regards
Andrea

I haven't used my Kodak 5500 printer in a little over a week and now I'm trying to print out pictures and with a new black cartridge, it's like there is no black ink. However, I just printed out a word...

Since that you already did a good troubleshooting cleaning the printhead and calibrating It and replacing the printhead., I just want to ask this How many times you already replace a printhead if its newly installed it means the problem is in the printer itself and for that you need to call kodak for printer repair toll free 1 800 421 6699

Now if the replacement printhead is more than a month and you already did all the troubleshooting it means the nozzle of the printhead is clogged you need to call kodak for printhead replacement

Printer ink full but will only print color on doc not black txt..

Epsons love to be used, hate to stand around. They employ a ceramic printhead that will tolerate thousands of pages and do them all well but not using it for a while (sometimes only two weeks) can cause the printhead to dry out and never return to usefulness.
About the only thing you can do is to repeatedly run the printhead cleaning routine over and over again. If you are lucky, Epson allows you to which path (Black or color only) to attempt to clean. Good luck; I have had to retire several Epsons after a fairly short life for this problem.

Printer only printing tops of words

Depending on the printer, you must wither change the ink cartridge, clean the printhead or replace the printhead. They are not all the same. If it's a dot printer, make sure the ribbon is in correctly.
