Hello

Theres no such thing as an "unsafe sound card". You can spend anywhere from $20 all the way up to $300 depending on exactly what you are looking for

Installing a sound card into your computer is easy and takes around 10 minutes. You basically have to unplug your computer , unscrew the side panel , slide off the side panel and then you will see some slots on the mainboard , some of which should be empty. Its then a simple matter of unscrewing the backplate so the outputs on the card can be accessed from the back of your machine and pushing the card firmly into the slot. It can only go one way so theres not much room for failure!

Personally though , ive never really had the need for a sound card. All recent computers have sound built into the motherboard and if all you are doing is listening to music and playing a few games then its generally hard to tell the difference between onboard audio and a sound card. Id only recommend a sound card if you are a serious audio fanatic who does something like sound engineering as a career and is very picky about the level of sound that you get.

Sound quality is also determined by speakers. Bad quality speakers and top notch sound cards will still give bad sound quality!

I cant install my sound driver.. conexant just says not reconized and the other one just dissapear mid-installed

Usually, this means it's not even recognizing that it's on board. Easiest thing i can tell you is go to control panel - system - device drivers - go down to sound, modem, and delete the entries. Then re-start your system. See if windows finds the hardware. If it does, then install using your cd. Don't let windows install it. Just close those boxes. Many sound issues are modem related. Most modems require the sound card and that's usually the issue.

Don't know how to get sound to work after reformatting

Hi kra02,
In order to get your sound to work again you will need to download and install your audio driver on the machine again.
You mentioned that you have a Compaq, you can go online to the Compaq website to get your Audio driver and probably the other drivers for your machine since you reformatted then you need to install all drivers needed for your Compaq.
Check in device manager under control panel to see which drivers needs to be installed, then you can download from the Compaq site to have your machine running fine again.
Drivers that you probably will need to download is the Chipset Driver, Video Driver, Audio Driver, LAN or Ethernet Driver, these are drivers that are most important.
I hope this help.
Have a nice day,

I reformatted my pentium 4 windows XP last time and my computer has no sounds.i want to install some online games. how should i install the rigth sound driver for my computer? thanks i hope that you could...

You should check with the Driver CD that came with your system upon purchase. If you dont have it or lost it, try searching for AC97 audio drivers online.

First connect your spearker to your computer -
1. check you have installed your sound driver in your computer.
2. If there is no installed drivers install drivers from *********** board CD.
3. If you attached sound card in your motherboard, install CD which you have sound driver card.

I recenttely hooked up my old gateway compute with the boston speakers and cannot get them to work.. is there some software i need to reinstall to get them working?

on your gateway computer, check to see if you have the volume icon in the bottom right hand corner. If you do then raise the volume up.

If you don't see an icon then that means the sound card drivers are not installed and they need to be to get sound going thru the speakers.

www.gateway.com and go to there support section to get the sound card drivers. I would go there and download the sound card drivers for your computer and then just to make sure you have the speakers hooked up properly go read the manual for the speakers located here:

http://www.bostonacoustics.com/Assets/pdf/manuals/735setup.pdf

Make sure you have adobe reader installed to read the manual.

If you install the sound card drivers and the speakers are hooked up right and your still not getting sound, then that means either the sound card is bad or the onboard sound chip on the motherboard is bad.

Need make and modle of csound card and which OS you are using in order to try to locate a sound driver. Anothe option is to purchase and install a different sound card in a PCI slot , if this is a PC.

Problem with Windows XP recognizing Creative Sound Card

It sounds like a software problem. Though you did the right thing by entering the bios & disabling the onboard sound. That should have been enough. Did you uninstall the old intergrated sound drivers before adding the 24bit card? Just about all the drivers & upgrades for your 4600 through Dell is Creative software & thats why your having a tough time. I would put everything back to how it was. Re-enable the intergrated sound & reboot! Run system restore & check that every thing is running right!! Look at this dell web site for the sound drivers you have at this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
If you must, install a upgrade for your intergrated sound. Just so you can uninstall it after a reboot. Re disable the sound in the bios. Do not install your new card yet. While back in windows device manager you should be missing a PCI device. Shut down install the new sound card. Hopefully windows will want the drivers & all runs fine. If still no it could be a bad card (i know what your thinking but it's possible). The only thing left is the regestry is using the wrong PCI device.
