Hi,

You just need to format it. Not a quick format - the full thing, using FAT32.

Good luck,

Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article 971029
describes an update to Autorun that restricts AutoPlay
functionality to CD and DVD media. This update is intended to stop AutoPlay
functionality from working on USB drives, external hard drives, or network
shares. This update is available for supported editions of Windows XP, Windows
Server 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008.

Removable USB/thumb drives use the Autorun feature to load files when the drives are plugged into the USB port. Malware exploits the Autorun feature to spread from thumb drive to PC. Disable the autorun feature to prevent malware from spreading.

The preceding describes what has likely happened to your USB ports due to Windows update disabling the autorun feature for USB thumbdrives. The thumbdrive may no longer present its data properly unless you manually invoke the autorun in its root.

It is virus which uses autorun feature of the removable devices such as USB Pen Drive. These type of viruses usually have two files. (a) autorun.inf and (b) the executable (.exe) or script file. Some Antivirus programs delete the exe file but the autorun files remains. In your case, the exe file (rahul's virus protection.vbe) has been removed but the autorun entry is there, which is run everytime you try to access your pen drive. First, plug-in the drive and DONT OPEN IT. Open 'My Computer' , right click the pen drive and choose explore. (This would by-pass the autorun feature).

Download Flash Disinfector and save it to your desktop. Double-click Flash Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear. The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well. Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
Reboot your computer when done.

(Flash_Disinfector will remove any autorun.inf files, create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection)

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Good Luck!
Appreciate generously, if the solution could have been of any help!

Just plug it in to an available USB port, it should be detected as another drive letter within the Windows Explorer. You can copy files and/or folders to it by either dragging the files from another window onto the drive, or by right-clicking the files/folders themselves and selecting "Send to", then the drive letter for the USB drive.

Just plug it into a usb port on your computer. For computers with win XP and later it should be plug and play.

After that it should autorun. You could use it like a regular drive / folder on your computer. You can place and copy files to and from the stick.

The autorun file in the drive has been modified. A virus should have done that and in turn your anitvirus must have found and removed the virus. Hence windows is now trying to find the missing application. You can revert this by either removing the autorun file in the root folder, or by modifying it to your liking. Usb flash drive icon changes into folder icon

This issue may have resulted from a virus infection on the machine the drive was plugged into.

You’ll need to delete the file autoruns.inf located on your flash drive.

By default, Windows hides this file, so before you can delete it you must make a couple of changes (you may reverse these after you’ve finished):

Open My Computer
Tools
Folder Options…
Click on the View tab
Under “Hidden files and folder” choose “Show hidden files and folders”
Remove the tick from “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
OK

Go back to My Computer and click on your flash drive. If you can’t open it that way, try right clicking on it and choose “Explore.”

Find the autoruns.inf file, right click on it and choose “Delete.” Confirm “Yes.”

Unplug and re-plug the drive in. You should be back to normal.

Hope that helps.

External USB disk

you can try opening the drive from FOLDERS button on the menu bar then chose your drive from the left folder explorer tree. it should open.

to avoid future problems download this program and it should catch all autorun viruses on flash memory. it takes a while to catch them all so be patient.

Copying pictures from computer to memory card

i have seen this error and i dont know why it does that. you may want to try buying a micro disk setup that fits into a sd adapter that will fit in your camera.

then you can take out the micro disk when full and put it on a usb adapter and plug right into a usb port.

i know this sounds like more work but so far i havent had a lock up on that or error yet. go to tigerdirect.com if you want to see the different adapters for the sd disk and micro disk and usb etc....

maybe this might help
