Ok.....then go to start button, then control panel, then system icon not sound icon then device manager, double click on sound, video and game controllers, this will bring up your audio device/s, click on it/them and in the audio device window does it say your device is functioning correctly, if not install the driver by selecting tabs up the top of this window, ask it to search for driver via internet too to find the driver, if it cant find one what is your audio device called? go to dell website and get the correct driver for your audio device to work on your pc ok, welcome

Just to make sure desktops almost never have built in speakers.
1. Check that your speakers work. Try them with an MP3 player or other device to make sure they work.
2. Check that the speaker is plugged in the right socket. Play something on computer and switch around the plug.
3. In windows press START->Control Panel->System->Device manager.
Right click on Sound device and write down the make (Company and a model number).
4a. Google their website and go to support->downloads/drivers and download the appropriate driver.
4b. If its an INTEL sound device you might have to look up the motherboard as it might be bundled with the motherboard driver.

Plug the speakers into your iPod. Any sound?
You may need to maximize the volume-control on the iPod *AND* on your speakers, but you should hear some sound, if the speakers are working.

Try a different set of speakers on your computer.

Make sure that you have not "muted" nor "minimized" the sound on your computer.

Make sure that the speakers are plugged-in to the "green" socket on your computer.

Speakers stopped working

I get such a thing from time to time on different systems. What I do:

1. Open the Sound Control Panel (the one on this present PC is named: "SoundMax Control Panel").
2. Enable or Disable a certain feature (something like "Virtual Theater Surround" or "Virtual Ear" or "Acoustic Environments" or so on).
3. Click Apply and the sound is back in your speakers.
4. If you want, you can undo the enable / disable and the sound still works.

My toshiba laptop speakers (I think)

First thing to do plug in a headset if you have one and check to see if sound comes out . If you have sound then the problem is the driver for the audio. Try uninstalling and reinstall the drivers in device manager. If that doesnt work. Use the Toshiba device driver cd and completely uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers.

No Sound

carefully plug back the minijack for the speaker at the out or spk,
normally the sound card has three ports 1. for MIC 2. LINE IN 3.OUT (SPK) - SPEAKER.
carefully plug the minijack for the speaker into the third one - OUT (SPK) - SPEAKER.
in pluging it in, first put on a media clip on the windows media player and carefully plug in the minijack for the speaker and surely you will hear sound.

Speakers not working, but cables all plugged in...

No drivers for your soundcard, this is a computer issue not a speaker issue, contact dell, if you can understand a word they say, ask them "I have Dimension (model number here), I need to know how to install my sound drivers", if you dont know how to do this.
