The switch is part of the upper casing to replace it you mest replace the upper casing of the Thinkpad.
Try first blowing some canned air to remove dust and playing with the little lever to unlock it.

My hp zx5000 back light does not light

Real easy solution please note when your laptop is open there is a little white plastic stem type switch (micro-switch). This switch controls the back light, when the computer screen is lifted into the operation view (user view) the switch provides power to the screen.

Easy fix as long as the back light works just SOFTLY push the white stem down several times. This should clean off the dust which probably got under the micro-switch.
If this doesn't work then your back light needs to be replaced!

Info req'd on user part of linova r61e thinkpad

Some Lenovo and ThinkPad computers have a LED light that is located on the top edge of the screen and can shine a light on the keyboard.
To switch on this LED light, press the Fn key plus the PgUp key (This key maybe different on some model laptops).

Won't turn on unless wiggle cord

Had the same problem and cord wiggling worked for a while then no lights anyway I tried. I opened up the handle, and the 3 screws below the handle, to disassemble that part and looked into the little circuit board. The little on/off switch worked directly from the cb so just re-seated everything and Wiola! it works now. Seems like the little silver on/off button at the top loses contact with the actual switch inside and in my case re-seating restored that contact.

Hope this helps..

The red laser pointer underneath the mouse isn't coming on? put new batteries in and the receiver is showing the green light once plugged into my laptop.

I doubt the problem is the battery. I have this same mouse and it has worked beautifully for two years now EXCEPT for one problem: most of the time, the mouse does not turn on when the receiver is removed from the receptacle on the bottom of the mouse. There is a tiny little switch built into that receptacle, along the side wall of the receptacle not far from the light. I have to wiggle this little switch (gently!) by hand a few times until the light comes on. From that point, the mouse will work fine until the receiver is placed back in the receptacle.

LCD

First try this, right click on the desktop, click properties, open the screen saver tab, click the power button, then change the screen settings to never. If this doesn't work, then I'm afraid it's a hardware issue. Check the screen connections, connection to the back of the screen, screen to inverter, and screen to motherboard (under the keyboard), sometimes the connectors can work loose. If the connections are good, then the issue may lie with the inverter or screen itself. More than likely an intermittent problem with the inverter.

Does it happen at a consistant time? Then check the power settings for the computer (screen saver and time to blank the screen.
Also, usually have a little latch of some kind that operate a tiny switch that turns off the backlight when you close the cover. Perhaps this switch is stuck on yours and the laptop may think you have close it. To find it, you must look for either a little spring loaded plunger on the keyboard side, or an opening on the keyboard side that something on the cover inserts into. All laptops have it, but they are all different. When you find it, push on it to verify it works.

Laptop screen

Sounds like the switch that tells the cpu when it's open or closed is going bad. On most laptops there is a little switch that protrudes from your keyboard (usually in upper corners). Try cleaning it with isopropyl alchol(rubbing alchol) and a q-tip and see what happens. If you can't locate the switch on your model get back to me and i'll research a little deeper for you. Hope this helps
