Question about HP LaserJet M1522nf Multifunction Printer (CC372A)

1 Answer

SCANNER ERROR 5

I was having the same problem with the printer 'locking up' and not responding after it has been on for a while. I use it strictly through Ethernet port (don't even have USB hooked up).

Then all of a sudden I turned it on today an I get this Scanner Error 5. I've used the scanner / copier maybe 5 times the whole time we've owned this printer (6 months). There's not enough dust on or near this printer to feed even a single dust mite. So don't bother suggesting to 'clean the glass' --- it's crystal clear.

This is direct to 110VAC outlet. Is has been for 6 months. Printer did not report scanner error 5 until I turned it on today. Anyone who plugs a laserjet into a UPS needs their reading skills tested. It's blazened all over every UPS not to plug printers or copiers into them. The 'surge' in power when the fuser and other elements fire up are not nice to UPS's. That dates back to warning labels from the 1980s. Let's get beyond the 'cliche' copies of threads that are already posted here, at HP and other places.

Right click on the Windows Icon in the bottom left hand corner of your computer (same as the start button for other features with a left click)

Click on Explore

Find and click on Program files

Find and click on HP folder or Hewlett Packard Folder

Find and Click on Digital Imaging Folder

Double Click on BIN folder

Find the following file: hpqscnvw

Double click on that file (hpqscnvw)

Your HP scanning feature should open

I am thinking I may just create a shortcut of this and launch from that instead of HP solutions center if HP cannot fix this issue.

Let me know if this works for you.

if yes rate me

One thing is to make sure the unit is plugged directly into the wall socket and not a ups or surge protector. Power on these units is critical. If you have power dropouts that can effect the scanner of this unit.

hi maiviolin, For this code, the scanner lock switch may be in the locked position. Lift the cover and check the slide switch located on the top front left. If this is not the problem, you will have to have a service center look at the problem

My touch screen doesn't respond to touch and I am unable to make copies.

Does it respond to any touches or is it greyed out? This problem can be caused by either a bad touch pad or a defective scanner. Try accessing other options on the front such as the administrative menu. If those work, then the scanner might be bad or locked? Lift the automatic document feeder lid and check the lock on the left hand side to make sure the scanner is not locked. Restart the machine as well, could be an intermittent problem or static discharge.

Scanner error 5 indicates that the scanner head is not moving. This is most often caused by a bad scanner motor. If you open the ADF top, you should see the main scanner glass and then a small piece of glass. This smaller glass is held in place by one screw and a plastic retainer. Remove the screw and retainer, pop the glass out and smell the inside of the scanner. If you smell burned elecrical then that motor has definitely failed and you either have to try and find another scanner or find a donor motor. (the HP 3380, 3330 and M2727 all use the same motor).

Scanner locked error

Try unplugging power cord for the unit for 3 - 5 minutes and then plug it back in. The scanner module is locked and this may reset it. Under the operations panel, where the copies comes out there is an optic lock. You need to unlock it via the switch.

I am having a problem with my printer. When I turn it on the copy light is on and the feed switch light and the alarm light and it says in the screen release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off...

Issue: ERROR LCD: Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solution: Unlock the scanner lock switch

The scanner must be unlocked before turning the unit on.

Turn off the power.

Lift the document cover.

The scanner lock switch is on the left hand side of the underside of the document cover.

Slide the scanner lock switch to the release mark (an open padlock icon).

Lock the switch before transporting.

Close the document cover.

Turn the machine on.

If machine still is not working repeat the power off / on cycle waiting 5 seconds in between.

Sharp copier al-1642cs

This error is caused when the scanner glass is in the locked position. Make sure it is unlocked underneath the scanner on the left side.

If you look into the scanner is the ribbon cable tangled up or frayed?
