Re: Toshiba 5105-s501

The only fix (that I know of) is to do a repair install using an XP Pro CD. You could try to borrow one from a friend of coworker, or ask an IT person at work (if you have one), as they are certain to have one. Put it in your drive, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD, and when the menu comes up, press ENTER to select "Install Windows XP Professional", and then select "R" for a repair install. From there, it will look like you are reinstalling XP, but it is in fact just repairing the one on your hard drive (make sure you have an XP key [usually located on the bottom of the laptop] before you do this, as you will need one).

Sorry that that doesn't really help if you don't have an XP CD, but without one, there isn't too much you can do without a lot of technical/command line expertise.

Toshiba satellite 5105,only gets a sfar as "toshiba" screen with red lettering.Cant get to bios, hitting esc. worked once and said media failure. What can I do to fix it,or get it to at least do...

First, make sure the ESC key is the proper key to get to the BIOS. You should see a prompt right after you get the Toshiba splash screen to hit a function key to change settings.
I'm thinking because you got a media failure error, your hard drive may be bad and the boot order says to boot to the HD.

If you purchase a new OS disc of your choice, assuming it will work on your laptop, just palace the disc in the drive, boot from the disc and follow the on screen prompts.
Hope that helps.

It sounds like the hard drive is dying. I had a computer do the same thing and it turned out to be the hard drive. You should still be able to access the bios though. Try hittind either delete or F1 as soon as your toshiba screen appears.

Toshiba Satellite 5105-s501 Restarts Windows then shuts down intermittently

Yes it could be, the notorius GeForce2Go is a replaceable card on that model. I have seen, lines, blurry text, and Boot loop issue caused by it. Be warned, the replacement card is expensive.

Cheaper & better finding a complete laptop with busted screen.
and removing the card only. Then you will also have other spare parts.
