SOURCE: JVC Error Code 02 Safeguard Mode
Brendon, The supply side tape guide can jump out of its track and cause the mechanism to lock up. The load motor is trying to load the tape but cannot, so the load motor driver "times out" and displays the E02 error you're seeing. If you can get to it, try reseating the guide into its track, be careful not to scratch or touch the drum assy located right near the guide track. Good Luck, I hope you can resolve the problem. I solved the problem! Open the video cassette door. Look closely at the gear mechanism and see if there is any small debris in the gears. If not, using a magnifying glass and a paper clip(must stretch it out and use the tip) gently move each gear(gently). I had my unit ON. Once I moved the gear it became unstuck and ejected Mini DV cassette. I then re-inserted the cassette and it worked. The dreaded SAFEGAURD MODE message was gone and it is as good as new.
