Reset timeing on 1990 subaru legacy

Hi Jeff, The timing is set and controlled by the computer, but you can manually rotate the distributor. When I had pulled the distributor out of one of my suby's, it got bumped and rotated. I simply inserted it and hooked up the plug, tried to start the car and if it didn't start, re pulled the distributor, rotated the gear by one notch over and over again, until I got it right. If you recently changed the belt and something got moved, I always suggest a Chilton or Haynes manual, either and both have gotten me where I needed to be with my suby's. Good luck Jeff!

At 30 it spluters and juders

I know you did the carb. but either you have poor fuel supply (screen in the tank plugged) or your carb is still plugged, usually blowing them out is not good enough unless it is soaked in a carb dip tank then blown out. Most jets and passages still have a build **** in if you don"t have the chemicals to break them down it is neccesary to use something to run through them... I use a torch tip cleaner because of the variety in sizes... It's amazing what comes out of them when you finally get it clean and how big the jets really are...

Check engine light for misfire cylinder 2 and 4

If the engine seems like it's OK but you are just seeing a solid Check Engine Light, and if the light has ever mysteriously gone out on its own, check the Knock Sensor. Over time they rust. I have had the repair done on my 2 subies (a 97 and a 99).

The CEL will go out on its own if you have 4 starts with no misfires. If the knock sensor is out, rapid accelleration or steep hill climbing will make the light come back on as the timing advances and the sensor does not ****** the timing for you, so the knocking becomes a misfire.
