This is no solution but rather a suggestion,I bought a PC68XL from a for 68.00 total with a mosfet swing kit installed,I was able to contact the seller before I got the radio ...what i asked him was what was the radio going to dead key in turn he told me some rididculous amount like 5 watts swinging to 25 ... I told him I wanted the radio to dead key one watt and swing to whatever it went to(it ended up at 3/4 swinging to 7),I have a small amp 2 mrf455's this setup does key the amp and has my 90 watts swinging from about 18 to the 90... I do use a power mic actually 2 different ones both sound great (a 575-M6 and the newer model of the Minuteman) when you keep the mic gain on the radio at about halfway up and the mics just cracked open enough to see your meter at 100% otherwise they will squeal ... I use a Wilson 5000 with a flat swr... I do get my head beat in talking skip but I do talk(on a daily basis) on Channel 11 mostly and do get an honorable mention on channel 6 from time to time ... talked to Manchester, England just the other day on 11 so this set up works for a grand total of about 250.00 bucks. Moral of the story is you do not need to pump up the wattage on these radio's.

How do you turn down the modulation on a uniden pro510xl?

Not getting enough voltage or amps will make them squeal,also. Run both the amp & radio directly to the battery using some heavy wire. I use #8,but I would like to have some #6. Also,those stock little mikes on the 510 are a lot to be desired. Get someone to let you try a GENUINE Turner Roadking 56 & see if it still squeals. Lots of good tweaks on CB Tricks site. Good luck.

I can,t get any modulation on my uniden pc68xl cb

you shouldn't be able to hear your modulation anyway,unless you have talkback. If you can't hear to well get a mono set of head phones or turn your radio volume up.

It might be the mic wiring. They like to brake off the back of the plug. If you need repair work.

Best modulation for PC68XL

Most Cobra / Unidens are easy by clipping D9. On this one D9 and L19. Just turn up L19 to top. Clip D9 diode. spread coils 1/16" inch. Also use 100uf capacitor (-) toward final across JUMPER staple near Final Transistor in back. Use meter(adjust to best swing) spread back coils,remove L10,L20 slugs or adjust them to top. The only radio that clips different than D9 is Cobra 29Ltd (D11) or Uniden pro510xl(D14).

No modulation

I think you will find the Finals are blown in this radio.

usually caused by a bad antenna or a problem with the coaxial cable.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Have you tried VR5? Not much on the mods other than adjusting L8-10 for AM power.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Not much DIY (do-it-yourself) modifications on a Uniden Bearcat Pro PC68XL  Some that could be tried:
  • VR5 - adjust for max / best modulation;
  • L8, L9 & L10 - change coil spacing for maximum carrier output.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
