My printer was printing correctly earlier in the day. I have just replaced two of the ink tanks - the others all have sufficient ink in them. I now have washed out, incorrect colours.

Make sure you didn't put photo magenta or photo cyan where the regular magenta and cyan go, the photo colors are not dark enough, and don't make the proper colors when you print.

My large black ink cartridge with not print correctly on my Canon Pixma MP830. All the other colors work fine. I've done numerous cleaning and deep cleaning. Then replaced the cartridge and it still prints...

Are your black ink cartridges genuine Canon ones?
Are the contacts clean when you remove the cartridge?
If not blow off with compressed air and a clean brush, if necessary.

Canon.com's site covers the verification that the cartridges are installed correctly below:

Issue: Black ink does not print
Solution: Confirm that the recommended ink tanks are installed properly MP800R / MP830

Replacing an ink tank When replacing the ink tanks, confirm that the new ink tanks are installed properly. If the ink tanks are not locked into place, paper may not be fed properly, or ink may not be supplied to the print head. Recommended Ink Tanks:
mp500_supported_inks.jpg
  1. Confirm that the printer is powered on and press the Open button. (The paper output tray will open.)

    mp500_openbutton.gif

  2. Lift the scanning unit (printer cover) completely. (The print head will move to the replacement position.)

    mp500_scanningunit_open.gif

    Note:
When the scanning unit (printer cover) is opened more than ten minutes, the print head moves to the right side. If this occurs, close the scanning unit (printer cover), and open it again.

  3. Open the inner cover.

  4. Press on the tab to release the ink tank, then remove it from its slot. If you are replacing multiple ink tanks, make sure to replace one by one.

    05sj00142_01_en.gif

  5. Check the ink tank. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure <1>, it is properly removed. If the tape is not removed (as in figure <2>, pleease remove the extra tape).

  6. Insert the ink tanks into the print head.

    Note:
Press the mark "PUSH" on the ink tank firmly until you hear a click.

  7. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed properly and the ink tank lamps light red.

    05sj00141_09_en.jpg

<7> The ink tanks are installed properly.
<8> The ink tanks are not installed properly.

    Note:
    Ink Tank Lamp
You can check the status of each ink tank according to the way its lamp flashes.

    • - On: The printer is ready to print.
    • - Slow flashing (at about three second interval): Ink is low. Prepare a new ink tank.
    • - Fast flashing (at about one second interval): Ink tank is empty, or the printer is not ready due to an error.
    • - Off: An error has occurred and the printer is not ready to print.

  8. Close the inner cover and the scanning unit (printer cover).

    Note:

    1. When closing the scanning unit (printer cover), be careful not to jam your finger.

    2. When starting printing next time, the print head cleaning launches automatically.

I have a Canon i9900 printer. I have used the daylights out of it. Can printers start to print blurry if they are wearing out? My prints look fine at 100% on the monitor, and when I print the picture it...

Hi there,

Problem : Ink does not eject properly or Printing is blurred or Colors are Wrong or White streaks appear.

Cause 1 : Ink tank is not seated properly or the ink tank is empty.

Check to see if all the orange tape has been peeled off. If a part of the orange tape remains, remove it thoroughly.
If an ink tank is empty, replace the ink tank.

Cause 2 : Print head is misaligned.
Action : Align the Print head.

Cause 3 : Print Head nozzles are clogged.
Action Print the nozzle check pattern to check for uneven ink output.
When specific color is missing from the nozzle check pattern, clean the print head.

Cause 4 : paper is not loaded with the print side up.
Action : Checl that your paper is loaded with the correct print side facing up.
Note: Follow the instructions packaged with your specialty media for loading and handling.

Cause 5 : Incorrect paper type.
Action : Windows : On the Main tab of the printer driver, confirm that the selected Media Type matches the paper loaded.
Mac : In the Print dialog box of the printer driver, select Quality &
Media from the popup menu, and then confirm that the selected Media Type matches the paper loaded.

Cause 6 : Glossy photo paper other than the Canon specialty media is used.
Action : Select Other Photo Paper from Media Type. It may resolve the problem. Load one sheet at a time and remove each sheet as soon as it is printed.

Hope this helps.

Acts like its printing but no ink on paper

Using HP Director, you should be able to check estimated ink levels by selecting Settings -> Print Settings -> Printer Toolbox and then clicking on the Estimated Ink Levels tab.

If the ink levels appear to be sufficient, on the printer control panel press Setup, 1, 4. This will generate a self-test report. If there is streaking of any of the 4 bars at the bottom of the page, the affected cartridge may need to be cleaned. If any of the bars are missing, the cartridge needs to be replaced.

To clean the cartridges, press Setup, 5, 1. This will print a page of patterns.

When i turn my printer on the light flashes green once and then orange 5 times. cannot get past this stage - any ideas?

Here are all the flashing explanations:

Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error

Reload the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Three flashes: Paper jam

If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, reload the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

See Paper Jams

Four flashes: Empty ink tank

If you press the RESUME/CANCEL button, it will continue printing with an empty ink tank. After printing is finished, replace the ink tank immediately. If you continue printing with an empty ink tank, it may cause damage to your printer.

Refer to your Quick Start Guide for instructions on how to replace an ink tank.

Five flashes: No print head installed/Defective print head

Install the print head. Also, ensure that the protective tape has been removed.

If reinstalling the print head does not solve the problem, replace it with a new one. Contact the Customer Care Center.

Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full

The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact the Customer Care Center.
