Most prob. ur hard drive is going to end soon...
check that CMOS detects it or not?

if cmos do not detects after proper connecting ur hard drive there is no way....and u have to buy a new hard drive..

if cmos detects thentry to boot the pc.
if booted with no error u r very lucky...
..then...first of all backup ur data...

Shock and vibrations harms ur hard disk and the disk produces weired sound . Othere reasons may be :
1) loose screws tightening the hard disk.
2) using the same table for CPU (Cabinet) and ur DMP (if any).

gud luck!

Brand new, not recognized by hardrive

Try plugging it into the back ports of your computer haven't already. The clicking is from the reading head not finding zero on the platter, which means its either a bad drive or a lack of power. So try the back ports first if you haven't already, because they usually supply more power than any front ports. It also depends on how old your computer is, but in general if it has XP on it it should have enough juice to power the drive.

I was watching the TV, and heard a weird crack sound. The TV went yellow, and when I shut it down, the lights in the front flashed as if I needed a new bulb. I replaced the bulb, and it acts like it can't...

It sounds like the color wheel has failed and needs to be replaced. I don't know what brand you have but I would find a factory authorized repair center for that brand. You can usually find one by googling the manufacturers' name.

No output

Make sure you have your speakers connected to the main output. Also, in the "Universal Control" "Mixer" window, make sure that at least one of the mixes are assigner to "Mo", which stands for main output.

Maxtor 3100 80GB External Hardrive clicking/humming sound.

This could be an issue with the circuit board.I am facing a similar problem & shown it for repairing. And facing issue in sourcing the IC. Seagate is giving support for maxtor after it has taken over. Data recovery is possible only if the circuit is working.

Hard drive clicking

Hi dsthrasher,

Anything making a clicking sound in your pc is a bad sign. it means that there are lose parts or somethings rubbing where it shouldn't be. I would recommend that you backup your data onto cd, dvd or an internet data storage a soon as possible. If it is the hardrive that is clicking that means it doesnt have much life left in it and even if they did last forever its a great idea to have a recent backup.

Also make sure its the hardrive and not the fan. cause if the fans malfunctioning more serious problems can occur.

Do you mean the fan is running more loudly?

It's possible the additional heat from the hard drive is raising the temperature inside the case. Most fans are thermostatically controlled (they run more the hotter the PC is) so you'd expect this.

Will it affect the motherboard? If the the fan is running properly, no. The PC should shut itself down before thermal damage occurs. Make sure you don't have it tucked into a space where there's no airflow.

Make sure all the vents are clear (vacuum if necessary); I will even open the case and vacuum, but if you don't know what you're doing, I don't recommend this.
