The sync speed varies depending on what you want to shoot and the flash you have. You can sync up to 1/250 usually.

1/125 of a second, according to Nikon, but I've found on my N8008 that using 1/60 is more reliable.
if you use one of Nikon's dedicated Speedlights (SB-24, SB-23, SB-22, SB-20, SB-18, and SB-16B) then they set the synch speed automatically.
