I do not know how to download my video recordings or pictures onto my SONY computer

You will need a card-reader (you plug it in your computer using USB). Then it shows up as a normal drive which you can access through 'My Computer'.

My Canon camera ES8400V has USB streaming ? Where to look.

Yes, the device can stream images stored on various disk mediums. For example, saving acquired imaged onto storage mediums have tobe removed from the camera and inserted in appropiat drive area on computer to achieve image transfer mode. Analog camcorders alternatively can recording while in motion with the connector provided connected to DVR, DVDR, VCR players from which the motion medias are recorded while play motion is taking place on comacorder.

Upload footage off video camera to laptop

The simplest way to save the video to your laptop (note that you won't be able to view it from there) is to buy a cheap USB card-reader that handles SDHC cards - about US$10 - and simply pop the card out of the camera into the reader. You'll see the card and all files as a new drive. You can also play the video from the card in the card reader.

I would like to store my video movies (Video 8) onto my hard drive how can I convert these?

I think what you want, is to transfer your captured video from your video camera to your computer?

You can use the cables that go from the video/audio three-set to the USB. You may have to buy one. It should work, but I think the easiest is to burn to a DVD via a player/recorder, and then you can use something like Windows Media Player to "rip" the video and then save it to your hard drive.

Canon vixia hv 30 not recognized by computer

This camcorder uses USB for pictures only. To access pictures, plug in USB cable, set the camcorder to Play and to Memory Card.

To transfer video you need a firewire cable and card. Actual cable will depend on connection your computer has, typically it will be something like this: FireWire_cables.jpg

Additionally, to transfer video you will need a video capture software and codecs, unless the software has the codecs (Nero does). Unfortunately all free video editing software I tried was unable to deal with HD. I had various levels of success with Windows Movie Makver, Ulead and Nero.

You may want to record video in non-HD, and see if you are able to capture that. If your computer can capture that but not HD, and you have the codecs installed, you will need to investigate your computer.

If all you need is a codec, here is a good free candidate: K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

It is of course very frustrating that Canon would include nothing with the camcorder to assist users with video caputure.

you can access via USB only SD card on your camcoder.
The only way to transfer from the tape is via Firewire (IEE 1394) . You should have this port on your PC or laptop, if not you can buy external firewire card .

Ok, discovered a few things. You guys are absolutely right. I looked in the side compartment for the DVD, there is nothing in there to do the recording, so is for looks. The "lens" or what you think is the lens in fact is just the viewing tube to sight the picture. The actual lens is the little dot below the tube. Cam is very light sensitive and will pixelate badly if you try to zoom in on anything.
However, I did figure out that you have to have the knob on the side set to USB in order to pull pics off camera. I agree with the above is a piece of junk!!!!
