Unit Turns Off

We have a Fedders Window Unit we purchased brand new about 1 month ago. We have just begun to use it in the last two weeks. It is a Fedders 24,000 BTU Model A6D24E7B. The unit runs perfectly until there is the slightest change in AMPS. When you turn on a light or turn on the stereo, it turns itself off and will not come back on. We hit the reset button, but this does not work. I read the other post which says to wait 10 minutes, which we will try. But we cannot understand why this is happening. Could the powercord on the unit be bad? Or possibly something computerized within the unit? Can you help?

The unit had a bad cord. We have since replaced it and it is functioning perfectly. The surge protector which is built into the plugs was defective.

Have you checked the breaker in the breaker box to see if it's tripped? Also check the amp rating on the air conditioner and the amp rating on the breaker the unit is plugged into, the breaker may be weak or not a high enough amps or rating for the unit it's trying to power.

Where is fedders 5000 btu drain plug

If you have a window unit or thru the wall unit, Drain Hole is located under the drip pan at near the rear of the unit. It may be difficult to find if it is clogged. As the clog will blend in wit the hole.

Hope this helps you locate it. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

How many tons is my unit?

divide your btu rating by 12000. (1 ton = 12000 btu)
For example - a 24,000 BTU Air Conditioner is a 2 ton unit. 24000 divided by 12000 = 2
A 18000 btu air condtioner is a 1 1/2 ton unit 18000 divided by 12000 = 1 1/2
you can find out your btu rating by looking on the tag on your unit.

My landlord installed this brand new out of the box. Our apt is 900 sq ft tops. This unit can't even cool down our living room and kitchen. If the whole 2 bedroom apt is 900 sq ft, you can imagine how...

The AC your landlord installed is rated at 8000 btu which is way too small for 900 sq ft. You need at least a 15000 Btu Air conditioner and a 'well insulated' house to be cool.
A good rule of thumb in the AC business says you need 1 ton (12000 btu) of Air conditioning for every 600 sq feet (if the house is well insulated) - if not - then you will need 1 ton (12000 btu) for every 400 sq feet.
So, if you have 900 sq feet and the house is well insulated you should have at least a 15000 btu unit.
If it's not well insulated you will need 24,000 btu.

Makes funny noise stops starts over and over

sounds like it may have a bad capacitor.. ooo wow thats a pricey one to 24,000 btu. i would have it checked.. you can have the capacitor checked, search your area for your local electric motor repair guy with free testing. you will need to bring the cap to him for testing. right down how the wires cam off of the capacitor !!!!this is a cool fix and can run from 5.00 - 60.00 for the cap..

We purchased a Maytag M7DH65B2A Dehumidifier 2 years ago. We plugged it in last week and it runs however does not produce water in the tank. What is the problem?

call 1-866-629-8241. they are no longer honoring the warranty, because the maker, fedders, went bankrupt. they will send you a prorated check. we had two months to go on ours and they sent us a check for $14 and change. you must have documentation.
