My problem is that I am unable to recharge my IPOD because the connection is damaged. Is there any other method of repairing this? I was told by Apple that it was unrepairable. The only damage is the connection at the bottom.

Re: ipod classic 80GB
The dock connector is permanently attached to the logic board. In what way is the connector damaged? There is a website with instructions on how to repair an iPod dock connector.

Ok, this is kind of an expensive fix, but the product is absolutely incredible. It's a wireless charging station, where all you have to do is place your ipod on the surface and have it charge. Check it out at this link:

Open the iPod classic and replace the logic board. The board is available on ebay. Here's a guide on how to disassemble an iPod classic. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have a service do it for you there are third partyiPod Repair Services.
Is it still on or does it stay frozen off? If it's still on and frozen, simple hold the top button and the home button at the same time and wait until it restarts and the apple logo will appear. Then if it does this again later on when using the iPod, do the same thing and plug it into the computer and do a full restore or upgrade.
I had the same problem. And I coudn't remember my SCREEN LOCK Password as your son. So what I did was I just disconnecteed my IPOD while it was connected to itunes without properly ejecting. This method doesn't retrieve or resets the password, it justs opens your ipod out of the screen lock. so your son can hear his music as usual until he can get a password retreive helper.
Turn it of by holding the up and center buttons for about 5 secs. Your ipod keeps freezing probably because heat has warped the harddrive. Open it up and get something like a business card that is thicker than normal paper, fold it in half and place it in between the foam and the harddrive. The added pressure should straigten out your harddrive, making it play normally.
