Question about HP Pavilion a620n (PC028A) PC Desktop
Trying to install new DVD/CD Writer in sister's computer. Found out new ones not compatible with her HP a620n computer. Meanwhile a square "comblike" box came off of motherboard. I don't know what this is and what it should be connected to. I can see where one "arm" attaches but not the other.
Obviously I know just enough to be dangerous.
Assuming that you are talking about the heat sink.
This device actually makes contact with the CPU and is held down, usually on four points, to the motherboard.
You will need to get some new CPU grease to put between the heat sink and the CPU when you re-attach the heat sink.
However, I would first examine the heat sink to verify that the "legs" are not broken. If they are, you will need to purchase a new heat sink.
Also inspect that the motherboard isn't broken. It normally isn't but you never know.
