I have the same problem. When I try to load the software, it wants to connect the camcorder to computer, but just sits there forever and never connects. What firewire cable is the correct one for the sony handycam dvd recorder? I bought one that is 6-4 pin, but the camcorder looks like it takes 5 pins. Anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks :).

The camcorder will keep showing connecting, but it doesnt mean it is not working. Infact it wont show anything more. You have to open picture motion browser,go to file and then import media files.Once you have saved then you can disconnect the camcorder connection. It take a while for the import though.

Having difficulty connecting the jvc gr-d370 to my computer using Windows Media. What must I do to retrieve the video from the camcorder using the USB cable?

I had this same issue. I solved it. The USB cable will NOT work to transfer video. You need a IEEE-1395 fire wire cable. I purchased the internal card and cable for under $20.00 for my DELL computer direct from dell. After you connect your camcorder to your computer, I clicked on windows photo gallery. Then in top left corner, click file and "import from camera or scanner. Your camcorder must be on video mode and play mode. Your computer should recognize the camcorder, click on it and then it will give you options, like you can upload and record direct onto DVD. I liked the option of uploading manually because if there are blank sections on the DV tape, the computer will stop uloading. Hope this helps.

Unable to Load software

Did you try uploading using a firewire card and firewire cable? It is an alternative to USB and is the most preferred way of transferring video from the camcorder these days. Also did you try uploading the video using windows movie maker? COnnect your camcorder to your computer and press the capture from camera option to capture the video on your camcorder to your computer. If you have already tried everything then the simplest way to transfer is to remove the 1.5" hard drive connect it to your computer(your computer should have SATA connector), transfer the video and put the hard drive back into the camcorder. Might sound crazy but its a very effective way considering the fact that it is quite easy to remove the hard disk from most camcorders.

Let me know if you need more help,

Huge Loss Of Quality When Importing To Computer

First off, see if it has a firewire port, and if so then try to upload via firewire cable, not usb. But for any camera, you lose quality when uploading to a computer. What you could try doing is convert it to another format, this may improve quality some. Try not using widescreen, see what results you will get. Also, are you using internal memory on the camera or external (IE-SD card). From my experience, using a high quality SD card (SDHC for example) and getting a card reader (They are cheap, USB card readers about a buck on ebay) and uploading it like that, you get better quality video and pictures. Try some of these, if they don't work you can wait for another person to answer or email me.
Thanks, Aram

Uploading video to Mac

You can't transfer videos through USB. You will need a Firewire 6-pin cord and use it to connect from your MAC to the Camcorder. Only then you can transfer videos.
