Is there a possibility you erred in reassembly and shorted a wire inside the unit which in turn blew a fuse in the car somewhere?

Sorry to state the obvious, bit just in case, have you checked to be sure the screen is turned on? Press and hold the volume knob for a few seconds. There is also a display off button on the dash to rt. of the display unit.

of course they have updates, you just had the bad luck with speakin with some douche on the phoneline. Go to your VW dealership, at least once a year they have new DVD with new maps etc. But it's pretty expensive, I don't know what currency is used in the country you live in, but it may be as well more than 250 USD.
And don't try to get home-burned downloaded maps on DVD-R. It won't work, the laser in the DVD tray for satnav maps can read only proper matrix made dvds (silver, not green or gold etc.).

They will send you the proper DVD.

the satnav/radio has to be ON for 3 hours without any action. I am not sure, if it has to be 3 hours consequently, so 3 hours the engine and satnav on, or it could be for example 6 halfhours, I dont rememmber, but I had this exact problem with 2005 audi allroad. The safe characters will change after 3 hours to rotating numbers and you will be able to enter the code.
DOnt bother to go to the service station, all they can do is also wait or completely reset the unit, which is very pricey, because they have to remove the backpanel..
Be patient, dont touch the satnav let it on, its really a long timespan but it works.

Check to make sure all fuse associate to the radio/navigation is good, sometime like the acc socket fuse being blown could cause the thing to not work also, so make sure you get to all the fuse to make sure they are not blown. After that, there maybe a fuse located with the navigation unit behind the radio/navigation unit that may be blown. If there isn't or is still good, check all connection to it. If all is good then your unit could be history and you may need to take it to a dealship to actaully see what is going on.

Unfortunately, water based solutions will destroy the navigation system if spilled on the electronic side of it.

Depending on how much was spilled, it probably fried the electronics in the unit, and the entire unit should be replaced.

A code will probably have to be entered in a used unit to make it work after installing the new/used one.

Hi I have a 2006 Caymans S and have exactly the same problem, everything works except the Sat Nav!

In the navigation option menu, it lists 0 satellites being picked up

The dealer looked at it today and replaced the GPS antenna, but didnt fix it. They too mentioned about a new unit...

I will post if I solve it, but if you find out what is wrong I would really like to hear about it.

DVD unit is under the passenger seat. Just buy the new maps DVD from the dealer, eject the old disk (button on the left, covered with slider) and put the new disk in. It takes 10 minutes.

Had a similar problem on my 2006 A8L
It appears that "Car" botton got stuck in pressed position due to some sand getting between buttons, another time it was "Nav" one.
After minor cleaning, and popping button back to normal position, works fine.

Hi... Had this issue in the past with my 2004 RX. Someone gave me this tip but I don't know how it will look in your car: What I did is the following: Took off the DVD Unit (mine was in the rare trunk) unsrew the screws. There is ribon kind of thing that you need to disconnect ( i guess I had to unscrew some other drivers as well inside the unit.. cant recall). Anyway, after disconnecting that ribon, reconnect it and put everything back and it should work fine.
