According to your manual for the motherboard the ddr1 and ddr2 are just the slots being labeled.

The motherboard supports only DDR memory and you can use either one stick of memory or two sticks of memory, its your choice.

You can put as much as 1GB of DDR ram into each slot meaning you can have 2GB of memory max on the motherboard.

Here is the link to the manual where I got the info for you:

Hope all this info helps you.

You need to find the manual online for your board. It will contain the information you need about your memory. Usually you don't mix DDR and DDR2 sticks... and DDR2 is far more stable and better. So I would just stick with that.

Here's a manual for your board to download..

AND... here as well.

I hope I have been of some assistance!

Good luck!

I am going to upgrade ram to 1 gb. can i use ddr2 1 gb ram to upgrade .motherboard is microstar model ms-6526 ver: 2 . present ram is ddr1 400 MHz, 512 MB

If your computer has two RAM slots on the motherboard, i would recommend trying it. The computer will run on the 512MB stick alone and just not recognise the other stick. And if it works it works.

I have searced for support documentation and came up with none for the original MS-6526

I run my original version MS-6526 on a 512MB PC2300 (DDR1) and a 512MB PC3200 (DDR1) and it runs just fine for games and videos.

Personally I would recommend trying the DDR2 first and if that fails, return the card and get a DDR1 card. They are expensive, but at least they work.
