Question about Sony VAIO VGN-T150L PC Notebook

1 Answer

Motherboard problems? It started with an error message - "Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" which ended with a memory dump and the computer hung up. After this continued for a number of days (I was on the road at the time and couldn't get to a support facility) the screen started to go blank. The power light was on but the computer was frozen. Turning it off and then on again would bring the system back for a couple of minutes but then it would hang up agan. That is the current situation. The computer is 2.5 years old. Has 1Gb Ram and is running XP pro with all the updates. I tried a reset to an earlier restore point but that did not make any difference.I spoke to a technician (not a sony one) who said that it is probably the motherboard. I was unable to get Sony even to answer the phone without paying $30 for the privilege! Do you have any suggestions? Many thanks Geoff Caine

Re: Motherboard problems?

These messages can occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If a driver is listed by name, disable, remove, or roll back that driver to confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.
Make sure memory is not at fault. Use memtest86 ( You will probably have to leave memtest overnight to make sure every single bit is tested. Try reseating the RAM module.

Keep getting an error message irql not less or equal and system reboots. what do i do

IRQL errors are generally software/driver induced.
1st see if you can boot to the safe mode (F8 at boot) and get into windows.
If you can try a system restore to before the issue started.
If you can't get into windows, try Fn + power and run diagnostics on the system, you may have a bad hard drive.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. It also says "physical memory dump complete"

What is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Error or 0x000000D1 Error?
A 0x000000d1 error occurs when one of the drivers you have installed on your computer has become corrupted or is behaving in an unstable way. To fix this problem you can roll back your drivers, update your drivers or restore your system to the last known good configuration. If you have recently installed new drivers or new plug-and-play software, it's very likely that the errors you are seeing are due to this.
driver-irql-not-less-or-equal-r-n-vycoaah5hfbvqv45to4wibe0-2-0.jpg Updating Your Drivers:
If you know which drivers you haven't updated in a while, then the first step you should take is to update those drivers. A newer version of a driver is less likely to suffer from system instability issues the way an old driver might. Updating your drivers usually involves going to the product's website. If you recently installed a new NVIDIA graphics card, for example, you would go to the NVIDIA website and look for their driver's section. To update your drivers successfully you will need to know the exact model of the hardware or accessory that you recently installed and the operating system you are currently using.
1. Go to the manufacturer's website.
2. Find the Drivers section.
3. Select your Operating System.
4. Select the model of your hardware.
5. Download and install.
Rolling Back Your Drivers:
If updating your drivers doesn't help, you may need to go in the opposite direction. If the hardware or accessory item that is causing this issue is something you've been using for some time, it may be that the most recent drivers are causing the problem. This is often true if you're using an older operating system, such as Windows XP or Windows Vista. When you roll back a driver you will be rolling it back to a prior version that you had used successfully in the past.
1. Click on the Start button and navigate to the Control Panel.
2. Open Hardware and Sound.
3. Open the Device Manager.
4. Right click on the applicable device.
5. Select Properties.
6. Click on the Driver tab.
7. Click on Rollback Driver.

I have a compaq nc6400 gives me blue screen of pfn lis corrupt and irql not less or equal i look up irql not less or equal and it's telling me that it's overheating and that maybe the ram is bad. help me,...

usually blue screen errors are related with the ram memory issues or ...corrupt (bad status) Hdd, but in your case probably one of the coolers doesnt work and it is overheating and forced to shut down suddenly ..,solution is to verify the ram memory ...and check the bios for any temperature limitations...and best is to restore the optimal defaults settings ...( factory defaults ) ...and also try to reinstall the operating system cause it might just have so issues ....also ...try to remove and replace the ram unit in its slot be sure that its all ok ...
there is whatever the possibility that overheating damaged the ram memory already ,.and in this case it should be replaced... but this case its rare ...and ram memory if its not touched by hand ...usually has a life time exploitation period...
so ....either unlimited the maximum cpu temp allowed ..from bios...or find a way to install extra cooler fan...and reinstall for to be sure its all Ok...

Bsod on a ibm thinkpad t30 xp sp3

Normally this indicates some kind of resource conflict between device. Could be you just updated drivers for a device, or a new device was installed/used.
From the device manager you should be able to find out which devices have a resource conflict.
Other details on the driver irql not less or equal error might help you as well.

Windows Vista Blue Screen Error

Try this...on boot up hit F8 and select SAFE MODE and see if you can get in that way. Look on the control panel for add and remove programs...eliminate Uniblue from the program list. Reboot and you just may be fortunate.
Isn't it funny that the program that is messing up your machine is the one (for money) will fix it.
I still think the best way to update drivers is right from the manufacturer (ATI , nVidia, ASUS,)or the computer company (Dell-Gateway-HP) they all have driver updates for FREE in their Support area look for Drivers and Downloads. To contact their sites try the Company name and .com
I also think if things are running along just fine...don't update until performance suffers. Like your daddy told you...if it ain't busted, don't fix it.
hope this helps...good luck my friend

HP zt1170 freezing, blue-screen, IRQL errors, etc

First of all, I recommend you to try using the Notebook with the RAM you had purchased...and remove the preinstalled ones.

Try using the 512 MB of RAM you had purchased by inserting it into the other slot if you receive Bluescreens with the RAM installed in one slot.

If you receive the same Bluescreen errors again and again, the issue can be with a damaged Hard Drive which might be having some bad sectors.

Additionally, IRQL not less or equal error message you receive indicates that few of the Device Drivers you had installed are incompatible.

Check them if you are downloading and installing the required drivers from any third party website other than from HP.

Hope this helps...
