You can change the foot pressure with a screwdriver at a little hole on the top of the machine. it's the most left hole. to change it back to factury setting, turn it counter-clock-wise as far as it will go. then turn it 6 times clock-wise.
too bad, that the manual doesn't say, whether it will go loose or tight if you turn it the one way or the other. that's now up to you to find out.

Pressure foot will not move fabric

Make sure the presser foot is down.
Have the feed dogs been dropped, as for darning?
Is the stitch length set to a higher number to make bigger stitches?
Does you machine have a pressure adjustment for the presser foot--check the owner's manual. The pressure adjustment increases or decreases the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the feed dogs--makes it easier to switch between stitching light weight vs heavy weight fabrics, ie chiffon and wool.

What does the pressure foot knob on top of the sewing machine do ? Are their certain settings that need to be done?

The knob regulates the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric and feed dogs. For most common fabrics, the middle setting would be standard. However, adjusting for thicker or thinner fabrics is available when needed.

No knob to adjust presser foot pressure. Space between feed dogs & presser foot is too tight to pull a piece of fabric out with foot down. Diagonal seams get pushed out.

You should not be able to pull fabric from the machine when the presser foot is down. The presser foot should always be raised before removing the fabric.

Are you trying to darn or quilt something without the feed dogs activated? If so, there are special presser feet for that purpose that are shorter in height (ie darning foot) which allow more space between the presser foot and the stitch plate so the fabric can be moved freely.

Where to adjust foot pressure

This feature is not on all sewing machines but if your machine has adjustable pressure, it will be controlled with a screw or knob on top left above the presser foot area, it may look like a silver twist knob or have a plus and minus symbol on it to indicate which way to turn it.

Pressure foot pressure control

The pressure foot knob had some problems. on this model. The solution was to remove the covers and the e clip that holds the knob in place. I install a belleville spring washer on the knobs shaft. This extra tension keeps the knob from turning when the sewing machine vibrates. This may be more difficult than most consumers want to attempt.

How do you adjust pressure foot tension

you probably can't adjust the pressure on the foot, most models it is preset with no ability to adjust the pressure. Take a look at the top of the machine, left side above the needle area. If your machine has adjustable foot pressure, there will be a thumb screw of some sort on the top of the machine in this area, possible with a + and - symbol to indicate which way to turn to adjust the pressure.

I have owned Elnas, Janomes and Singers and only one of them had adjusted foot pressure.

Pressure foot too high

On the top of the machine directly above the pressure foot should be a post with a knurled knob-like nut. You adjust pressure foot tension there.

But before you go doing that are you sure you've put down the pressure foot?

VX808/Vx809. When put pressure on foot control stop motion contro doesn't move.

I would suggest that the machine needs to be serviced to find out why it not responding the way it should.

This is a parts identification question. My manual does not identify a part just above the tension part on the top of the machine left edge which is round in appearance about a little smaller than a dime...

Possibilities are:

foot pressure adjustment
tension dial adjustment
stitch elongation

If you can already identify the tension adjustment dial and this device is above the pressure foot, then I would gess it is the first one, foot pressure adjustment.

Many models don't have this but it was standard for many years on all machines, allowing you to control the pressure of the foot onto the needle plate, something you need to vary if you are sewing very heavy coatings or very fine silks, sometimes you just need to finesse the pressure yourself.

How do I adjust tension on my dogfeed?

You haven't said what make and model of machine you have.

Howver, pressure onto the feed dogs is usually controlled by adjusting the pressure foot pressure which is pushing the fabric down onto the feed dogs, you don't usually adjust the feed dogs themselves.

Pressure foot pressure is sometimes a dial or knob on top above the pressure foot area, if there isn't one visible on your machine, then it probably isn't a feature it has.

My Janome has knob on top that you can turn turn or up to tighten or loosen the pressure - I don't usually adjust it much though, only time might be if I'm sewing a couple of layers of vinyl or leather and having trouble getting it to feed.
