Dvd drive (by 2 users)

my dvd drive will read cd roms / audio cd / dvd but not dvd-r / dvd+r / dvd-rw discs. this is a recent problem as i have had no problems reading these media before. I have tried a system point restore to a date earlier than the problem starting but it has had no effect. what can i do to fix this problem?
