Question about Sony RDR-VX500 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

I am not able to format a blank DVD prior to dubbing from video(both +R and -R). Am I to assume if the "format disk" option in the menu is grayed out that the machine is telling me the disk does not need to be formatted? I have not been able to play back my recordings on any other DVD player or my PC. I'm guessing it is a formatting or finalizing problem. But those options are not available to me.

So, When I put in a blank +RW it says on the TV screen "unformatted disc please wait" BUT on the DVD player it only says "loading" for quite a long time. I found that I needed to format the disk manually using the system menu/disk settings after it finished "loading".
I also found what I heard here to be true. This machine does not like -R or -RW use only + disks.
Finally, make sure you switch back and forth between the DVD and Video functions in order to carry out the various formatting and finalizing tasks. For Example, the machine will have to be in the Video mode to dub a tape to DVD, but then you must put it back in DVD made to finalize. This seems obvious now, but it is not spelled out in the instructions and I became frustrated when I thought that the disk would not finalize. Of course not. I was still in video mode.

Vfazzi - You shouldn't have to format a DVD - it should do that automatically when you put a blank one in, or when you start the recording by pressing REC. After the recording is done, you will need to finalize to play it in another player, and the option should then be available (It would "know" not to let you finalize a blank disc).

What does error code e22 mean

e22--will not finalize DVD-R disk (due to dirty lens, I think)
*unplug unit and replug after 20 minutes
*restore settings if needed, and reset clock
*insert & run/play a DVD lens cleaner disk
*dub video from the HD to a NEW BLANK DVD
*finalize after dubbing is finished
THIS WORKED ON MY MAGNAVOX MDR 533H/F7

PS: make sure that the new blank DVD disk is from the same pile of disks that you were able to finalize before.

I have a Toshiba DVR620ku DVD/VCR combo. I have the Format Mode properly set to "Video mode." I put in a new, unformatted DVD-R, and the player should format the DVD, but it doesn't. I click...

My brother had the same problem. Toshiba tech support said the disc was already formatted, so the DVD MENU option would not be available. He went straight to dubbing and recorded to the disc. After recording, the DVD MENU option was then available. He thought the disc was not formatted since it was straight out of the package and he always had to format other new discs. Perhaps your disc was actually already formatted?

Can not get dubbing to work

Samsung's solution to many problems seem to be the type of dvd. Try using a dvd-r. I am able to select dubbing with a dvd+r, but the +r discs won't play in other dvd players. Apparently, -r is the only disc to use with this box to avoid issues. The +r records the soundtrack a few seconds off of the video track.

You need to go into the set up menu and select recording options. On the recording options menu, scroll down to dubbing options. On the dubbing options menu select either VCR to DVD or DVD to VCR.
Recording and Dubbing are not the exactly the same thing. You use the record buttons to record TV directly to VCR/DVD you use the dubbing buttons and set up to record DVD to VCR or VCR to DVD.
Hope this helps.

LG RH265 - Problem when trying to register blank disk/dubbing

The DVD needs to initialise the disk first. Come out of the HDD dubbing menu and press DVD on the remote. The blank recordable disk should be recognised and you should see Initialise disk? on the screen. Press Start and hey presto, you can now dub from the HDD Movie dubbing menu (as per the manual instructions).

Vcr to dvd recording

As i recall, +r's will only format in dvd vr, the unit does not like high speed recording disks. switch to dvd drive - insert blank disk - if no format screen - goto (on remote) setup - onscreen menu - system setup - disc setup - new disk format - hit center button in ring on remote to change to vr or move up to reformat as vr. once disk is formatted, use record speed button on remote to set record speed 1,2,4,6 hr then switch to tape deck with tape in and stopped at begining, on remote hit dubbing, it will ask you confirm dubbing vhs-dvd .... toggle over to yes & hit center button... away you should go... c245 is a copyguarded tape.
