SOURCE: DAMAGED POWER OUTLET ON MY LAPTOP

First, you do not need to replace the motherboard. What you are describing is a very common problem for HP notebooks. You can buy the part on eBay for about $5.00, usually with shipping! It will take a while to take the machine apart - and you must be very careful! but it's an easy fix once you get the notebook apart. This page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=214342& will give you the info on your machine. Just download the manual entitled: Maintenance and Service Guide. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read the file. I recommend that you print the guide before you begin. It will walk you step-by-step on how to disassemble the notebook to get to the power jack. It all requires is some soldering. You may not even need a new jack, but just know that eBay sellers have them.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion zv5000: Screen blan, power light, fans are on.

lala linda is right. . . repairing the power pin isn't that expensive ... In fact I've fixed some myself and it's really not that hard. It is time consuming and tedious to make sure that all the bits and pieces fo back in the right place. Take some pix as you take it apart and you will find that's it much easier when you go to re-assemble the unit. btw . . . The power pins are available on the net for $ 10 or less usually.

Also . . .Once you get it fixed get a Cable retention device to make sure you don't damage the pin a second time. Personally I recommend (and use) this one.

SOURCE: my laptop does not turn on

No idea why they fixed the problem then said it is the motherboard. There are times though when the motherboard is actually bad and it does need to be replaced even with replacing the jack. With a motherboard it has to convernt electricity and sometimes the wiring is fried or bad. But if it works then let it run, if not, I would take it some where else and have another company check to make sure that they did not melt the board causing it to be a board problem

SOURCE: power cord loose at the insertion point in the

Yes, you can take the laptop apart and resolder the jack to the motherboard. I've never done it, but have read articles about it and watched a video on youtube about it. Go here and you will find a fast video about it, which will give you an idea about what you have to do (it's a fast motion video). There will be other videos to refer to, also. I couldn't find one for the xz148, specifically, but there are some for the Pavillion series. Sounds like you've identified the problem, the task now is to get it apart to get at the power jack solder points. Take pictures as you take it apart, to help you with any problems reassembling it. Good luck!

Testimonial: "Now that you identified the battery terminals as being BEFORE the voltage regulating circuits, this has the potential to be very helpful!! Thanks!"

MY ASUS F5VL MOTHERBOARD WON'T TURN ON???

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:

Possible causes:
AC adapter failure.
Power jack failure.
Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

I have XPS M1530 DELL Laptop. DC JACK(power charging port has broken from mother with a very small piece of mother board)....I had tried to call customer care ..he told you should change the motherboard...

If this motherboard is a multi-layer motherboard then it is impossible to repair.
You can try to repair the motherboard by glueing the broken piece onto the motherboard with epoxy glue. Then identify the broken power circuit tracks between both parts of the circuit board, and then solder wires across these tracks or to the closest solder connections to re-establish the electrical connections on the motherboard.
If this does not fix the problem then most likely it is a multi-layer motherboard and you cannot bridge the internal connection inside the motherboard.

I replaced the DC jack on the laptops motherboard because my Charger Fried and also melted the inside of the DC Jack, But not That I have installed a new on the power doesn't seem to come on at all, The...

There is. It would appear that the DC jack was not the only thing that was fried. If all your solder connections are correct, the mother board may have been damaged be the shorting of some part on the board, and burned open. Look for fuses, and "resistors that are have a "0" on them. they should read a short. if you find nothing. the board is damaged beyond repair.

My laptop will not turn on the power supply is is fine gateway m6880

If laptop will not turn on and the power-supply is fine then it will be the computer itself and the only way to fix that would be a new motherboard due to the everyting oinside the laptop is pretty much connected to the mother board and not able to replace it without replacing the motherboard

My Acer 5630, suddenly cannot turn on. I already replace DC power adapter by a new one, but the problem still exist. Anybody can help me.

If you have already changed the charger, and tried running it without the battery, it sounds like you have a Mother Board failure. You should contact Acer and have it replaced.

Power jack loose on mother board advent 5303

Hello,

If the jack is just broken loose then you should be able to disassemble the laptop and resolder the jack back onto the motherboard. If the jack is broken then you will need to get a replacement jack and change it out. You can get power jacks from several places on the internet including Ebay.com If you don't want to try the repair yourself we have a repair service and can do it for you. We charge $55 + return shipping. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

I'm missing the part that the adapter plugs into

The laptop power socket that the adapter plugs into needs to be repaired, (ie. the power socket needs replacing). This requires the laptop to be dismantled to get at the power socket on the motherboard.
It is not an easy job, get a quote from the repairer before you decide whether it is worth the cost.

Broken DC in Jack

I agree, the best option is most likely a motherboard replacement.

You can search Ebay, there are several places that advertise DC power jack repair, But from my experience, repair is an iffy proposition.
