On words with friends how can I Delete players from leaderboard who are not Facebook friends????

Maybe you have to play more than one game.

To delete a message:

1. Click Messages on the left side of your homepage.
2. Open the conversation you want to delete a message from.
3. From the Actions menu, select Delete Messages...
4. Use the checkboxes to select the messages you want to delete.
5. Click Delete.

When I am playing Words with Friends my friend plays a word and the caption off to the side says he has played but it takes a while to appear, yet others I play it is instant

You did not mention if the things that you wanted to delete are the things that you posted (or the things that your friends posted)
Well, if it is yours that you wanted to delete here's how:
Sign in to Facebook, On the upper right part of the facebook page, click profile.Click the WALL tab, there you will see the history of your activity in facebook. All your posted videos, messages and activities were listed. This are the lists also that your friends will be seen on their facebook page.
Delete this one at a time by pointing the arrow of the mouse to the topic, a small word "remove" will pop out once you point your mouse.
Click it and it will permanently remove from yours and your friends facebook.

However, on your homepage...posts that your friends made cannot be deleted.. you can hide it but everytime you sign in you will see again their posts.

When you're log in to your Facebook account on the top right hand side of it you will see there the word Account and with a drop down list and then click on the Account and click on Edit friends and from there you will see X button that says remove connection and when you click on that that friend of yours will be remove or delete from your account.
