Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My dryer heats up but will not dry the clothes. I have checked the lint filter, vents, hose but everything is clear. I have noticed some condensation under the dryer after it has been on for a while. Any suggestions?

How do I get to it?

  • c-rae7 Jul 06, 2009

The opening for the tube goes to the front of the dryer, still round. Is there a space above that could be blocked and do you know how to get to it without taking the entire dryer apart? Or am I reaching and the problem is more serious?

Inside the machine in the back there is a metal box that captures the air coming from the drum. This can become blocked with lint and cause your problem.

If you unhook the vent tube you can reach in the back and see if it's blocked, unplug the machine.

Lots of heat but don't dry

The usual reason for this is poor venting. If the dryer cannot exhaust the moisture-laden air that is created during the drying cycle, the moisture simply condenses back into the clothes. Ensure that the dryer is properly vented to the outside and that the lint filter(s) are clear of debris.

Our LG dryer doesn't dry clothes very well. We usually have to run the dryer 2 or 3 times to dry our clothes. I've checked the lint filter, hose and vent. Everything is clear.

if you have checked vent all the way out to termination point and sure that it is clear and not obstructed with damp lint then i would say you possible have a bad thermostat on the heater... this regulates how often and how long the dryer heating element runs and stays off.it has a open temperature and a shut down temperature... i would suggest replacement of that first... it is located on the heating element of unit... it is a round disk shape like bi-metal with 2 wires attached to it...
good luck to you....

My dryer will not dry my clothes what should i do to fix this problem. It takes 3 cycles to dry a load completly

if its a condenser dryer make sure the condenser itself is not blocked up ( usually located at bottom of dryer, looks like a metal box). clear any lint build up and u can also flush it through with water. obviously check the filter also.

if a vented dryer make sure the vent hose not kinked or blocked, check the actual vent outside on your wall as wel. sometimes if wrong vent fitted ie one with wire mesh meant for extracter fan, can be blocked up with lint

My dryer is saying to check filter but the fileter is clean, the vent hose in the back is clear and it is still not drying the clothes. The dryer is putting out heat, but the clothes are still wet after a...

There is a restriction in the dryer venting system. If the moisture is not removed from the dryer thru the moisture vent then the clothes will get hot but not dry. You will need to remove the vent hose at the back of the dryer and look inside the vent pipe and see if it is restricted with lint. You might need to reach up inside the vent with your hand and pull out the lint. Also some of the newer dryers have a fan assisted venting system and if the fan stops working that can cause this issue.

My ge dryer takes 5hrs to dry a load of clothes, it seems hot enough inside when i open it but the clothes used to dry in 90mins or so now its hours

Have you checked your lint filter? Do you empty your lint filter after every load? If it is hot inside the dryer then the most likely suspect is a clogged exhaust vent. Check the lint filter, if it is clean pull the dryer out from the wall and disconnect the exhaust hose. You may have to clear out the exhaust hose...compressed air usually does the trick. After you have done this, put everything back together and your problem should be gone.

I have a GE Frontloader Dryer, model# SBSD227FWW

common problem result from you having a clog in your home vent.....wil need to check outside vent while unit is running on air dry for air flow....could also be a vent motor failure....depending on unit it may have a motor just for the exhaust fan.

Dryer runs for long time and does not heat up to dry clothes

Check first to see if the lint filter is clean and the vent hose is clear. If the filter is clean, the vent hose is unblocked and not crimped, and the exterior vent is clear then you probably need to replace the heating element.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Lint vent

There is no lint filter in this machine, however, the condensing duct and condensing bellows can get be a problem later on if it gets jammed up with too much lint.  If you notice that it takes 50% longer or more to dry your clothes, you will need to have the duct checked and cleared out of excess lint buildup inside.  Not an easy job but it can be done.
