Dell 1300, touchpad and wired lan (a bad combination)

I've only heard of something like this once before. That computer had been turn into a share time server by a disreputable web site. The only way my friend was able to correct this was to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the O.S. If you signed up for some kind of online backup gimmick this could also account for this behavior as well. I recommend you try booting from a bootable CD and run an Anti-Spyware and Anti-Virus scan. Set both programs to make backups and remove items found automaticly. If these don't work you'll probably have to rebuild your hard drive.

Look at the back of your machine and make sure that your LAN Input isn't crashed or frozen. If its frozen or has crashed the green light will be a steady light with NO flickering and if you unplug the LAN cable, the light won't go away. Gateway's like to do this, try starting the computer first then plugging in the cable after logged in and everything is loaded. Problem is most routers require the LAN plugged in befor you turn on the computer, or it may not identify the network. Please also make sure your cable isn't damaged or corrupted.

Hope this helps ^^. Please dont forget to rate, Thanks

Due to the power fluctuation my dell laptop 1501 inspron's lan port or network adapter has been burned so whenever i insert network cable in it. it show the message of network cable unplugged

Most laptop lan ports are onboard so replacement would mean replacement of the entire Motherboard. A very costly option. I suggest buying a USB to NIC adapter from your local PC store and just use that for LAN connections.
(side note: get a good brand, cheap USB to NIC/LAN converters sometimes drop connections randomly so spend a few extra $$$ for a good one)

Dell 8100 ethernet will not connect off the port replicator

Let me give it a try ...

There are a few possibilities but i'll cover 2 of them :
1. There is a program that comes with your DELL that will save battery life by turning off your Network Card (LAN) I forgot what is the program name. But usually when you plug the power cable out, there will be notification at bottom right corner of your screen that told you so.

2. I don't know if your port replicator connected to power adapter (is port replicator = docking ?). The fact that your LAN connected when it's on port replicator make my first conclusion more acceptable. Since port replicator got it's own power adapter, it will just turn the LAN on.

Now if you want to check if thats the cause, just plug your notebook to it's power adapter/charger and plug your LAN Cable in. If it works than the problem is the nasty program from DELL.

If you want to disable the program just go to Startup Tab at msconfig and disable (clear the check mark) for that nasty program

Hope it helps
