I downloaded a tone to my phone, and I went to profiles etc to reset it as the text message alert, but the tone I downloaded is not there. It is in my stuff under audio, but I don't see how to set it as a text message tone or move it anywhere else for text messages.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

The msg alert tone depends on the current sound profile of your phone (like normal, silent, driving etc).
1. Go to main menu -> settings -> phone profiles. You should find all the profiles available in the phone. For example, we will change the msg alert tone for 'normal'.
2. Tap on the box with the double arrow (>>) symbol next to normal. You should enter a screen saying call alert type, voice call ringtone etc.
3. There is a drop down menu at the top right side of the screen. Tap that and select 'new messages'.
4. 'message alert type' should be melody or vibration & melody, depending on your preference.
5. now select 'message alert tone'. The phone has a number of tones already stored. Select one of these.
6. Or select 'sounds' at bottom right and browse to any file you want to set as message alert tone instead..
7. Save and exit !!
Go to settings
then press options on one of the profiles ie. Normal
go to edit
press right to go to message settings
press down to select alert tone
then select your tone from music or sounds
Hope this helps
you can download animated themes at www.mobile9.com and www.zedge.net for your e71 phone. as for the ringtones, yes, you can use these tones to be the the incoming tones of your text messages. go to setings, profiles, general, choose personalise, message alert tone and choose your favorite aac or mp3 tone to be your message alert tone.
your phones alert tone was set to beep once, to change this go to profile settings then open the activated profile such as general>personalize>message alert tone then now choose the ring tone you want to use as message alert tone..
By alert you mean the Tones of the Incoming Messages:
Go to Menu--Settings--Phone Profiles--Click the Arrow next to the profile you have already been using--on the top You will see an arrow facing download (a drop down menu button)--click--select New Messages--on clicking the Message Alert Tone box you will see loads of tones that you would want to select--in case if you want any song or tone that you have on you mobile to be your default message alert--select "sounds" at the bottom--select the "arrow" on the top go to the directory where you have the tones..select it and "Add" and then click "Save" Hope it helped...Let me know if there's any problem...
Try the following instructions, to personalize your Nokia E50! Profiles Warning: In the offline profile you cannot make or receive any calls, or use other features that require network coverage. Calls still may be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your device. To make calls, you must first activate the phone function by changing profiles. If the device has been locked, enter the lock code.
Select Menu > Tools > Profiles. You can adjust and customize the ringing tones, alert tones, and other device tones for different events, environments, or caller groups. To customize a profile, scroll to the desired profile in the list, and select Options > Personalise. Define the following settings: • Ringing tone — Select a ringing tone from the list, or select Tone downloads to open a bookmark folder containing a list of bookmarks for downloading tones using the browser. To listen to the selected tone, select Play. If you have two alternate phone lines in use, you can specify a ringing tone for each line. • Say caller's name — Activate the text-to-speech ringing tone feature. When someone from your contacts list calls you, the device sounds a ringing tone that is a combination of the spoken name of the contact and the selected ringing tone. • Ringing type — Select how you want the ringing tone to alert. • Ringing volume — Select the volume level of the ringing tone. • Message alert tone — Select a tone for received text messages. Go to Profiles, and choose a Customized Profile. Rename it to whatever you prefer. In this profile you can select your ring tone, message tone, volume, etc. I only had to do this once, and everything worked perfectly!
