Question about Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver
The top right "scroll up" button got stuck on and it was constantly scrolling through the screens. I reset it to get it out of this screen but now it won't turn back on. I've tried all the obvious things (powered from mains, USB, reset, etc.) with no luck.
Did you try a soft reset:
With the unit in hand press and hold the mode reset and power buttons all at the same time. Hold these for 3 seconds and then release.

My Garmin 305 was apparently dead.
A soft reset fixed it. A soft reset is:
1. unit turned off
2. press mode and lap simultaneously
3. wait 3 or 4 seconds, then
4. power on.
It works fine again!

If all the sugestions did not work these units seem to be sufering from a bad conection on the inside of the unit. My wife's did the same thing. There was a connection inside that wasn't making contact. First try cleaning the 4 brass connection tabs on the watch and check your charger to make sure the tabs are raised and not squished. Second try to reset the unit. Hit mode reset and power buttons all at the same time. Hold these for 3 seconds and then release. If these do not work here is what I did. There are no screws holding the unit together. I used a exacto blade to very carefully pry the unit apart along the side seam. It's not easy to do. Be very cautious and gentle. Work the thickness of the blade into the joint to gently wedge apart. You are not trying to remove material! Once apart you will see some fingers that make a connection between the upper and lower part of the unit. This is where the problem was with my wife's 305. I gently raised these tabs to make a better connection and used automotive silicone and tape to hold the unit together. Once the silicone was dry I removed the tape. It's been working ever since. I didn't try it before but try pressing very hard on the unit where it says Forerunner 305. The case is very hard so it might not work. But if it powers up when pushing you found your problem. Hope this helps.

The soft restart didn't solve my issue so I took the plunge and pried the unit apart using a fairly sturdy knife starting on the bottom edge of the watch just above where the strap attaches. If you pry slowly, the adhesive that holds both halves together will slowly give way until both halves come apart. I then bent the internal gold tabs up a bit that electrically connect each half and held the watch together and it powered back up again. I now just need to find some glue to reseal the halves together. Thanks to HIGHFLYon solution #7 for this fix.

I have the same problem, though I haven't used it for a while. Tried charging it, via my pc and the mains and also tried the soft reset but I still get no life at all from the watch.
