Question about Life Fitness Exercise & Fitness

Running surface is uneven and flimsy after hearing cracking noise. The treadmill still runs but is pretty much unusable. Is the deck broke? If so, I happen to have an extra deck if not too hard to replace. thanks

I think you misunderstood my problem. The belt is not sticking or moving side-to-side when I'm jogging on it. This treadmill is 10+ years old. I'm thinking the deck is broke because there is a soft spot in the middle when I stand on it (treadmill is turned off). I cannot see the crack when I look under the belt so it must be underneath the top surface. Do you have any tips, instructions, etc. on how to replace the deck for this model. I have an extra deck. Thanks

Hi

You can replace the deck yourself only if you have repaired any treadmill or have previous knowledge of treadmill gear & belt adjustments. As replacing the deck requires certain precide adjustments to be done. And, i'll not suggest you to do this job. However, if you have the expertise and correct tools then you can prtovide me the make & model number so that i can provide you with the Info.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

I think you can spray silicone under the belt to get it to run smooth without sticking. Any store that sells tradmills should have the stuff. If the belt is going left or right while running: then there are adjustment screw or bolts controlling the rear roller. The side you tighten will make the belt move to the other side. It takes small adjustments with time to see the effect. Don't tighten one side then tighten the other to correct. you will wind up with the belt too tight between the rollers which will cause wear. I am sure it is a screw with a nut you have to loosen fist to make the adjustment. Afterwards tighten the locking nut.

Error 27

Precor Error 27, Too Much Drive Motor Current Probable Cause 1. The running belt and/or deck are badly worn.
2. Drive motor is shorted or de-magnetized causing a high power demand.
Corrective Action
  1. Check the amp draw using a clamp on AC volt-amp meter during loaded and no load conditions and compare values to a similar treadmill that is known to have a good running belt and deck. Replace the belt and/or deck if necessary. Don't forget, some units have a double sided deck which means it may be flipped over rather than replaced if it has an unused side.
  2. Test unit with a known good drive motor. Replace drive motor if necessary.

What kind of lubricant fdo you use on treadmill decks

Silicone spray. Did you put it between the deck and the underside of the running belt? Not on the surface of the belt ( where you walk ) . if you put in on the top of the belt , then this is why it is slippery.

Cracked deck

I bought a second-hand York Inspiration, and it developed the same problem. Upon dismantling the treadmill, I discovered the deck was cracked in two areas. My solution was to put a section of chipboard over the crack on the underside, securing each section with 12 screws. I used 16mm board. I cannot remember the other dimensions of the board, but it needs to fit between the deck support rails lengthwise, and widthwise between the screw holes for the foot rails. It is best to tape the edges of the boards to ensure they don't shed any debris once fitted.

The Inspiration manual contains an exploded diagram to assist with dismantling the treadmill. If you do not have one, it is available as a PDF on the web.

It's fairly straightforward to dismantle the treadmill.

The only part of any difficulty is the foot rails; once the screws for the foot rails are removed they stay put, as they are stuck down with strong double sided tape. Ease them off gradually. Once you have removed them, mark the front of each with a bit of tape, as the screwholes are not symmetric.

Treadmill deck repair

MDF is what most companies use, but it varies. I'm not familiar with HP treadmills, do you mean DP?

It doesn't matter, I always use desck from the manufacturer. I have modified a deck from one model and used it on another, but I always use one specifically made for treadmills because the surface preparation they do is very flat and very smooth, far better than typical luber prep or anything I can do in my workshop.

You need the deck to be strong yet flexible, very flat, very smooth and very well lubricated.

With every step I get squeak / chirp while running on treadmill.

Check the knob used to hold it up in the folded position. While running, have someone pull it to the out position. That was the problem on mine. If it is, a little grease on the end of the rod should do it.
