The pilot goes off. and when you turn it on it stays on as long as u push the pilot botton. as u let it go it goes off. tried numervs times

we need the brand name so we know we are talking in the same thing,
the way you sound like the pilot flame too small that doesn't heat up the thermocoupling to keep the safty valve open, or the thermocoupling is in defect .You've to call in a gas fitter to do this job.
