My sharp aquos tv keeps turning on and off every few minutes I have cleaned the dust away from all the vents but still keeps turning of and on
Does the sound stay on, while the picture goes off? Possible causes of entire TV shutting down; 1. Excessive current draw by the TV electronics, from the switch mode power supply. The power supply monitors the current draw from the TV, and if the value exceeds designed specs, as a safety feature, the power supply will shut down. Usually a failing component in the TV is the cause here. 2. Excessive heat build up in the switchmode power supply, caused by a failing component, again, a safety feature to prevent the TV from literally burning up. 3. If the sound stays on while the picture goes dark, it could be the CC tubes (if equipped) or the CC inverter, or the LED drive circuit that's failing. None of these faults are repairable from a lay persons perpective. You did well to clean all the vents on your TV. You should also ensure that you have lots of free air flow around your TV, it should not be in an enclosed space (such as an entertainment cabinet). Heat is not a friend to your TV. Ray

this is not i a job you should do your self as it could do more damage than good this would be a job for a tv repair person.
QUESTION FOR YOU : are you running the tv straight from the power in the wall or a extension cord.
as an extension cord could definitely cause this problem too.

Aquos has the same problem. I'm not sure how I discovered this, but
when I lean the TV forward and hit the power button it will turn on
every time. If the screen blacks out and I don't lean it forward when I
hit the power button, the screen will just remain blank. It is very
weird, but at least repeatable.
- Thank you, Guest. That did it. It definitely seems to be a problem with the TV. Tilting it and hitting the power button helped me get the video back.

Hello,
Its the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.
Hope this help in solving the problem, take care
