Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook
This can also be a bios setting configuration. try checking if your hard drive is set to raid. if it is set to ide change the setting to raid.

It could be a memory problem. Remove and reseat your memory card and try it. If you have 2 memory cards, try starting it with just 1. If that doesn't work, swap so that just the other card is in place and try again.
Try bringing it up in "safe" mode. If that works, you probably have a software issue. Let me know how you're coming along with this and I'll be here to help'
