You can call Gateway and order a replacement CD for $30 or so. If you have a friend with an Operating System disk, borrow it. As computer turns on, press key to enter BIOS (usually F2) and find where it says "Boot Order". Set the CD drive to boot first. restart the computer, Press any key when prompted. Use the COA label on your computer for a serial number. Being a Gateway, you will need an OEM disk for this, but can be any OEM. You will have to change the product key on activation. Do not tell Microsoft you used a different CD, or they will blacklist you. Once the activation is complete, your COA should work fine.

When downloading a file with a PC and AOL, I first get Download Manager and save to a folder. Then a Download Continuation Window appears with options to Open, Find, or Close. Trying to Open (or any other option) brings up the hour glass. Trying to close the e-mail or any other window gets the hour glass, as well. I must restart and go to the saved downloaded file. Or, I can minimize and the go to the file. What can I do to Open the file immediately after downloading -- without getting the hour glass?

Gateway 450ROG SN: 0031598515 powers up only intermitently after many attempts. I hear a single click, power lights flash and then almost immediately another single click and it try all over again. Sometimes well into the boot cycle, sometimes immediate. Same issue when starting using a Linux boot CD, with and without battery, different power adapters, etc so not a software issue. Sometimes after many such attempts it will start and if I don't touch or move the laptop it will run for days using remote laptop and mouse. Is there a internal power supply that can be replaced or is this just a motherboard replacement issue? Thanks for you help, Dennis
