Dell 2208wfpt settings for portrait rotation?

Andrew Scharlach,
Are you changing the rotation using the ctrl+alt+right arrow. left arrow or down arrow? That is how i change the rotation on the screen. If needed lower the resolution in the display settings in control panel.
Thank You,

Dell 780

This is not a GPO issue. The problem is that all Windows will attempt to set the new resolution and a fail-safe is that if you do not click the Keep Changes button after thirty seconds it switches back to the old settings. This ensures that if you set the resolution to a range the monitor or display adapter can't handle that you don't get 'stuck' with a blank screen.
Check that the display adapter in the Dell 780 can handle a resolution of 1280x1024 and that the monitor can also handle this resolution.

After being on a few minutes, the text becomes very blurry I lowered the resolution, which makes the text bigger and helps some. There is an internal adjustment, but I don't know where??

Hi hamptonwhh,

Screen resolution refers to the clarity of the text and images on your screen. At higher resolutions, items appear sharper. They also appear smaller, so more items fit on the screen. At lower resolutions, fewer items fit on the screen, but they are larger and easier to see. At very low resolutions, however, images might have jagged edges. Please follow the steps below on how to adjust your screen resolution.

Windows XP
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.

2. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply.

3. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment.

4. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting.

Windows Vista/7
1. Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings.

2. Under Resolution, move the slider to the resolution you want, and then click Apply.

Notes : When you change the screen resolution, it affects all users who log on to the computer.

When you set your monitor to a screen resolution that it won't support, the screen will go black for a few seconds while the monitor reverts back to the original resolution.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I am getting a purple out of range box on my screen that floats from top left to bottom right that I can't get rid of.

It is because your Windows monitor settings are OUT OF RANGE if you can boot into Windows normaly just rite click on the desktop, chose properties, than settings tab (if it's XP), go to advance, than monitor, look for frequency refresh rate, change to 60Hz, than save, than reboot

if you can't boot into Windows, try booting in SAFE MODE by pressing (F8) key at startup than do the above starting at -- rite click on the desktop...

Good luck!

I recently bought a used Dell E193FP flat panel LCD monitor that was working properly on the computer it was taken from. I tried plugging it into my Dell Dimension 3000 computer and the colors are all...

1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz (optimal) resolution is the maximum resolution with 16 color if the other computer had it on 32 bit color setting or the resolution of the monitor aspects ratio changed than it will not display anything on your computer
Solution is plug in your old monitor and change the settings to lowest with the aspect ratio as what the screen size is then plug in the new one that should do it

Dell Dimension 3000 Video problem

There may be a problem with your windows installation. Search Google for Hirens boot CD, it is a free download and should contain a live XP installation. When you turn on the computer tap the appropriate button to reach the boot menu, then insert the CD and select your CD drive. Once booted it should display a live XP.
Alternatively you may have your monitor set to an incompatible resolution. If tapping F8 won't display the advanced boot menu then try finding an auto setup on your monitor or change the resolution using the monitors controls. If the advanced boot menu does display then select low resolution mode.
Hope this helps,

The monitor is giving a zoomed in view . its not giving the full view of the desktop screen rather a section of it is zoomed in . there are no settings to zoom out .??

ur setting may be set to low resolution...
try doing this
go to Desktop/right click/properties/Settings/Screen Resolution/
What do u c...what's the resolution there...800x600...
if the slider(pointer) is active use it to increase it to say 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x1024 etc.
use the correct resolution....as too much of resolution will make ur monitor un-viewable...
also try if ur monitor has some press button on them to make changes to the correct setting/zooming of the screen image...
